    The Birth of the Brand

    With the opening of the landmark Fairmont San Francisco in 1907, the Fairmont brand was born. As the collection of elegant hotels and resorts grew, guests began to associate the Fairmont name with unrivaled properties, authentically local experiences and warm, memorable service. Fairmont hotels and resorts have hosted the rich and famous, kings and queens, presidents and prime ministers, and stars of the stage and screen. Many of Fairmont’s iconic properties have been integral in the development of cities, had an impact on the course of history or even altered their communities’ social fabric.

    Think of a landmark hotel around the globe and chances are it is a Fairmont property. Fairmont Hotels & Resorts has one of the largest collections of storied properties in the world. Celebrated addresses in the Fairmont portfolio include The Fairmont Banff Springs, The Savoy, A Fairmont Hotel, in London, Quebec City’s Fairmont Le Château Frontenac and New York’s The Plaza.

    When the grand Fairmont San Francisco opened on Nob Hill in 1907, it set the stage for connecting the Fairmont name with “place of occasion”. It soon became the city’s venue of choice for glittering balls and presidential visits, and the setting for historical events: the United Nations charter was signed at the hotel, and Tony Bennett first sang “I Left My Heart in San Francisco” at the hotel’s famous nightclub, The Venetian Room. This pattern of creating memorable moments has resonated through all Fairmont properties, from grand dames such as The Fairmont Royal York, opened in 1929 and host to three generations of the British Royal family, to Fairmont The Queen Elizabeth in Montreal, where John Lennon and Yoko held their Bed-In for Peace in 1969 to Fairmont

    Mayakoba, a modern eco-friendly resort that opened in 2006 and hosted the first PGA Golf Tour event in Mexico. From star-studded visits to historic happenings, celebrated stories are the backdrop to the brand’s growth.
