With our hotels and resorts in the world’s most magnificent destinations, Fairmont knows the environment is worth getting passionate about. Which is why we’re thrilled to be the first global hotel brand to join forces with WWF, the conservation organization, to address climate change. With WWF, Fairmont will create ambitious plans and specific targets to reduce our CO2 emissions. Through the commitment and determination of initiatives such as this, Fairmont is finding innovative ways to offer our guests a truly unique combination of luxury accommodation and sustainable tourism options—because we’re all in this together.
Through this partnership, Fairmont has committed to benchmarking its greenhouse gas emissions and establishing a target reduction. WWF and Fairmont will work closely to set reduction targets, augment and refine the brand’s climate change strategy, and raise awareness among policy makers, consumers, and employees. As an environmentally progressive hotel group, Fairmont Hotels & Resorts embraces environmentally sustainable business practices and continues to seek out new ways to proactively green its operations. Fairmont is the first global hotel brand to partner with WWF to tackle climate change and looks forward to achieving significant CO2 reductions at all of its locations worldwide.
As a leading travel provider, Fairmont is reliant on destination health to be profitable and is committed to preserving the places where our guests and colleagues, work, live and play. Fairmont is resolutely aware of the business impacts associated with environmental damage (i.e. diminishing snowfall at ski resorts, extreme weather events such as tornadoes and hurricanes, etc.) and is taking proactive steps to reduce its carbon output and help mitigate the effects of global warming.
WWF is dedicated to avoiding dangerous climate change by advocating and advancing policy and practical measures to reduce carbon dioxide emissions. WWF is partnering with leading corporations like Fairmont as part of its Climate Savers program to establish ambitious voluntary targets to reduce CO2 emissions. By 2010, Climate Savers companies will have reduced their CO2 pollution by over ten million tons each year, the equivalent of taking 2 million cars off the road.
