Winter Activities

Skating
Skate the 7.8 kilometer long Rideau Canal from one end, at Fairmont Chateau Laurier, to the other, at Dow's Lake.  The Rideau Canal is the longest outdoor skating rink in the world and is the main attraction of the Winterlude festival.  It is open to skaters in January and February, weather permitting.  Skate rentals are available at various Silver Skates locations on the canal.

Skiing
There are many ski hills just north of the capital to thrill down-hill ski enthusiasts.  Cross-country skiing fans will be amazed by the opportunities in Gatineau Park, where there are almost 200 kilometers (111 miles) of groomed and track-set ski trails.  Ski enthusiasts can spend the night in one of five forest cabins as part of the Hut-to-Hut program.

Hockey
Watch the Ottawa Senators take on the NHL's best at the Scotia Bank Place, west of Ottawa, in Kanata.  The capital's Major Junior Division hockey team, the Ottawa 67s, plays at the Ottawa Civic Centre, south of the city center, along the Rideau Canal.  The Hull Olympiques play home games at the Robert Guertin Arena in Gatineau.
