New Brunswick Resort: The Fairmont Algonquin Hotel in Canada

Itineraries
Half Day Activities

Golf
The blue sky, the deep ocean, the green grass… a day on the links will fulfill all your seaside fantasies. Available for nine or 18 holes, a round at The Algonquin Golf Course and Academy provides fun and relaxation. Our Audubon certified course is a natural habitat for myriad local flora and fauna, and the Thomas McBroom designed course is sure to challenge the golfer of every level. After the game, the Clubhouse Grill is there to provide refreshment and a place to discuss the stroke-by-stroke replay!

Refresh or Escape
Relieve the last of your day-to-day tensions with a soothing service at The Spa at The Fairmont Algonquin. Massages, facials, pedicures, body wraps – ask the spa coordinator which service would best suit your needs and wishes. For a complete day experience, try a sports massage before and after your golf game.

Road of Chocolate
After an invigorating breakfast in the Passamaquoddy Room, pick up your picnic lunch and head out for the hills of St. Stephen. The Home of the Chocolate Bar, St. Stephen hosts the Ganong Chocolate Museum and Shop, as well as the Chocolate Festival in the first week of August. Stop along the way for a walk around Devil’s Head Preservation Trail to complete your peek into life in St. Stephen.

Minister’s Island
Ministers Island represents the last significant vestige of Sir William Van Horne, the driving force behind the building of the Canadian Pacific Railway, which unified Canada coast to coast. Guided tours of the property, for visitors with their own transportation, will include: a drive across the ocean floor at low tide to reach the historic island; a visit to Covenhoven, the former summer cottage of Sir William Van Home; the bathhouse with its tidal swimming pool; the livestock barn and the spectacular view from Sheas Hill. The tour will last approximately two hours and must be accessed with an organized tour. See the front desk for daily tour times.

Bay of Fundy Adventure
No trip to St. Andrews by-the-Sea would be complete without an excursion on the water. For the athletically inclined, sea kayaking is available from the town wharf, or from nearby Deer Island. For those looking for a longer journey, several whale watching tours are available, from zodiac speedboat to fully rigged sailing ship. Take in the ocean life and stunning vistas of Passamaquoddy Bay and the Bay of Fundy. Most excursions leave right from the Day Adventure Centre at the St. Andrews Town Wharf, a short distance from the hotel.

Hiking
Grab your picnic basket from the Passamaquoddy Room and head out for a natural adventure! For a close up look at the sea floor and local wildlife, a trip through the Bocabec Nature Trail is just the ticket. On the way back, stop at the Chamcook Mountain trail and climb up to the best view on the peninsula. This old carriage road rises in easy switchbacks to a stunning lookout, complete with etchings in the rock from decades past. The trail is marked with interpretive plaques describing local history and significant geographical and natural features. Don’t forget your camera – both trails will afford you uniquely New Brunswick views.
