Fairmont Beijing Goes To Earth Hour

(BEIJING) 27 March 2010, 8.30PM – As part of Fairmont Hotels & Resorts - Green Partnership and Environmental program, for the third consecutive year Fairmont Beijing joins 59 other Fairmont Hotels & Resorts around the globe to switch off the hotel lights for 60 minutes. Guests were invited to voluntarily switch off their room lights and join for Happy Earth Hour in the hotel's Lobby Lounge.

Fairmont Beijing’s interior design with floor-to-ceiling window from lobby, to meeting space and guest rooms allows maximum natural lighting overflow. In addition each guest rooms and suites are equipped with state-of-the-art sensor that would automatically switch off all electricity when remains idle without any guests presence in the room.

The adjoining office tower – Reignwood Centre also participated on the program.  Eco Martinis with green emphasis and light source from inside the martinis itself were passed around to hotel’s guests as memento of Earth Hour.

“We are proud to be able to participate in such a prestigious event, as an eco-friendly hotel group this is our third year of participation in Earth Hour. Hopefully we can show that 60 minutes does make a difference.” said Hans Hordijk, General Manager.

Earth Hour is a global WWF climate change initiative. Individuals, businesses, governments and communities are invited to turn out their lights for one hour to show their support for action on climate change. The event began in Sydney in 2007, when 2 million people switched off their lights. In 2008, more than 50 million people, including several Fairmont hotels around the globe, participated.
