The Fairmont Dallas announces Sean Springer, of Springer Design Studio, as the first Artist in Residence of 2011. Springer crafts furniture, home accessories and sculptures from salvaged wood, creating functional pieces from landfill-bound materials.

After graduating from the Rhode Island School of Design and studying with sculptors from around the world, Springer started Springer Design Studio, which allowed him to focus on making sustainable custom creations.

Springer’s sustainability philosophy fits the hotel’s mission to operate with minimal environmental impact, an endeavor that has twice earned this luxury Dallas hotel the Hotel Association of North Texas’ Green Hotel of the Year award. Shannah Milstead, Director of Sales and Marketing at The Fairmont Dallas, said Springer was an obvious choice as the hotel’s first artist in residence of 2011. “As we grow our Green Partnership program, it made sense to include the Artist in Residence in our initiatives. Sean demonstrates a true commitment to sustainability through his work and his interest in educating others about sustainability in art.”

Springer will be in residence through March 30, 2011. During this time he will work on two lines of furniture, the Casa Linda FOG Wood collection and the Fairmont Residency collection. In March, the hotel’s Ross Akard Gallery will feature Springer’s work – and on March 30, the designer will unveil a piece that will become part of this unique Dallas hotel’s permanent collection.

The Fairmont Dallas Artist in Residence program features breakthrough artists who live at the hotel and work in its onsite studio for three months. Springer’s studio hours are Monday through Thursday 9 a.m.-12 p.m. and Tuesday and Wednesday 1 p.m. – 5 p.m..

Located in the Downtown Arts District, this elegant, Dallas hotel is just steps from fine dining, shopping and entertainment. The hotel’s 545 guest rooms and suites provide guests with exceptional luxury, gracious service, eco-friendly amenities and distinctive Texas flair. For discerning business and leisure guests, the hotel offers Fairmont Gold, an exclusive lifestyle experience featuring many of the comforts of home.
