THE FAIRMONT DALLAS FIRST TEXAS HOTEL TO RECEIVE GREEN KEY AWARD

Dallas – March 9, 2010 – The Fairmont Dallas is proud to announce its designation as a Green Key certified property – the first hotel in the state of Texas to receive the award from Green Key Global. The rigorous environmental audit resulted in a four-key designation, out of a possible five keys, based upon the property’s commitment to responsible tourism and the implementation of sustainable practices throughout the hotel operation.
In an effort to continually find a connection to the earth, a characteristic that is inherent in Fairmont properties worldwide, The Fairmont Dallas focuses on sustainable operations, waste management, conservation of resources and community partnerships. Energy-saving efforts in 2009 resulted in a property-wide 50 percent reduction in energy consumption year over year – an endeavor significant enough to claim the title of Green Hotel of the Year from the Hotel Association of North Texas.

The online, self-administered audit takes a wide range of areas into consideration, including corporate environmental management, housekeeping, food and beverage operation, conference and meeting facilities and engineering. Each question on the audit is designated a specific numeric value, the sum of which determines the number of keys awarded to participating hotels. The long-implemented green program at The Fairmont Dallas fully takes into consideration each of these areas in its approach to green operations; the attention to each area is demonstrated not only through operational modifications, but through the hotel’s colleagues, who have become environmental ambassadors for the hotel.
