VICTORIA, July 18, 2017: The doors swung open to the new Q at the Empress in June 2016 and just thirteen months later has been honoured with a 2017 Award of Excellence from Wine Spectator. The Wine Spectator Restaurant Awards recognize dining establishments with wine lists that have a minimum of 90 interesting selections that complement the cuisine and appeal to a wide range of wine lovers.

“We are thrilled to be recognized by such a prestigious accolade,” says Albert Kirby, General Manager of Q at the Empress. “It was a lot of fun – and a lot of research. We wanted to create a wine list to celebrate the best of the Pacific Northwest along with carefully selected and well recognized vintages from around the world.”

Q at the Empress is a cheeky nod for Queen and country and is part of the $60 million restoration project that was completed in June 2017 and saw the hotel glammed up from top to bottom. The 88-seat restaurant retains the iconic architectural integrity of its 1908 roots and boasts a cherry wood ceiling and spectacular detailed mouldings, with contemporary twists. Winston Churchill once dined with his teapot of tipple, while others like John Wayne and Bob Hope were regulars.

Under the culinary guidance of restaurant chef Juan Bochenski, the menu at Q at the Empress features fare from local producers on Vancouver Island and incorporates fresh herbs from the rooftop garden.
