Vancouver, BC Factoid
Water, water everywhere! Vancouver is most definitely a maritime city, surrounded on three sides by water: the Fraser River to the south, Burrard Inlet to the north, and English Bay to the west. The water is fairly chilly most of the year, but not more so than at 2:30pm on New Year's Day, when some 2000 hardy souls plunge into English Bay. Vancouver's Polar Bear Swim, started in 1920 by restaurateur Peter Pantages, is one of the oldest and largest in the world.
