YOUR CIVIL UNION IN QUEBEC
Your wedding will be civilly recognized and registered with the Directeur de l’État Civil (Quebec Government). Your celebrant will take care of the legal documents on your behalf and he will as well customise a unique ceremony for you.
You will have to provide to the celebrant a copy of your birth certificate, as well as your divorce decree or spouse’s death certificate, if applicable. Other personal information may also be required to complete your file. In the province of Quebec, it is not necessary to obtain a marriage license or to have a blood test in order to be married.
Sex of the spouses: In Quebec, two people wishing to make a public commitment to live together may form a civil marriage, whether they are of the same or opposite sex.
After the ceremony, you may order an official marriage certificate that will be recognized by your province, state or country of residence.
