The Palace of Baron Empain

Built by the Belgian-born industrialist, Baron-General Eduard Louis Joseph Empain (1852-1929), the palace represents the most popular landmarks of Heliopolis. History writers claim that while he was in Egypt supervising one of his overseas projects, he had fallen in love with a beautiful Egyptian lady. That’s why he built the palace and founded the modern Heliopolis area in 1907.

The Hanging Church

Known in Arabic as Al Kanesah Al Muallaqah, the church was originally built in the 9th century over a gatehouse of a Roman castle. Although the Hanging Church has been rebuilt several times, it remains one of the most impressive churches in Cairo.

The Virgin Mary’s Tree

Located at El-Mataria, in Cairo, the Virgin Mary’s Tree has been attracting thousands of pilgrims each Christmas. Among many trees in Egypt, believed to have offered shelter for the Holy Family during their stay in Egypt, the Virgin Mary’s Tree in Mataria enjoys the highest regard of all.
