Whitefish Lake Picnic Area

Whitefish Lake, one of the largest lakes on Fairmont Kenauk with more than 160 acres of clean, clear water has over 2.5 miles (4 km) of wooded shoreline and is easily accessed by canoe (1.9 miles or 3 km) to the Kinonge River. Located on the western shore of the lake and easily accessed by car or bus from Fairmont Le Château Montebello, is a picnic area that offers an ideal setting for family picnics or for corporate barbecues. Picnic tables, barbecues and a dock from which you can boat, canoe or swim are available on-site.

Trout Hatchery

Adjacent to the picnic area is Fairmont Kenauk's private trout hatchery. Families wishing to tour the hatchery will see three different species of trout, including adult fish, weighing up to 10 lbs. You will learn how these fish are spawned, how their eggs hatch into fry and how they are raised first into fingerlings, and finally to adult trout. The hatchery can supply all necessary equipment for those wishing to try their hand at catching a trout, and the staff from Fairmont Le Château Montebello will be happy to prepare the fresh trout for the barbecue.

Montebello Old Train Station

Built in 1931, the Montebello train station now houses a visitor information center and an interpretation center commemorating the railway transportation era in the Petite-Nation region. Open year-round.

Parks Canada, Manoir-Papineau National Historic Site

Part of the grounds of Fairmont Le Château Montebello, the site is a unique example of a seigniorial manor (1850) that belonged to Louis-Joseph Papineau, lord of the Petite-Nation. The manor's architecture as well as the domain facilities reflect Louis-Joseph Papineau's culture and personality. The Grain Shed and the Papineau family's Funeral Chapel are open to the public. Guided tours of the historic site are available.
