Telluride Fourth of July
Telluride, Colorado's Fourth of July is considered one of the town's most premier events, featuring a truly entertaining parade that spans the five-block Main Street, followed by a barbecue at Town Park and root beer floats at the Telluride Historical Museum.
The 4th of July in Telluride is truly an old fashioned, small town America celebration. From the early morning hours to long past sunset, the festivities provide endless fun and entertainment for the young and the young at heart.
Culture: The 4th starts by paying tribute to the mining heritage of Telluride, Colorado. A stick of dynamite is lit deep in the mountains surronding Telluride. This unique wake-up call sends a deep vibration through the Telluride valley.
Fighter Jets: Early afternoon, three fighter jets from the Air Force base in Colorado Springs fly over the town of Telluride. This much anticipated event signals the start of the wacky and wild Main Street parade.
4th of July Parade: Locals and visitors alike don their best homemade costumes to march, dance, skate, or ride passed throngs of cheering spectators.
Fire Department's Annual BBQ: Experience some of the best barbequed beef and chicken, corn on the cob and fresh fruit while supporting the Telluride Volunteer Fire Department.
Kids Activities: Youngsters participate in three-legged races, water-balloon tossing, pie-eating competitions and other entertaining events.
Fireworks: Telluride has one of the most eye-popping fireworks display anywhere. Held in the softball field at the park, the fireworks are shot into a natural amphitheatre of sorts, framed by the Rocky Mountains. Thousands of attendees lie on their backs, watching the display explode directly overhead. We can't think of anywhere else you can have such an exhilarating pyrotechnical experience in such a profoundly spectacular natural setting.
