THE PLAIN OF SIX GLACIERS AND THE TEA HOUSE
Distance: 11km/7mi. Gain: 335m/1,100ft
If you only had time for one hike in the Canadian Rockies, this would be it. This spectacular hike can be turned into a loop that includes walking up to Mirror Lake then traversing across the rarely traveled “Highline Trail.” After conquering the ascent, we arrive at the Tea House for a well deserved rest and the option of fresh baked goods.
SENTINEL PASS
Distance: 12 km/ 7.5mi. Gain: 610 m/ 2,000ft
Sentinel Pass is the highest point reached by a trail in Banff National Park. Needless to say the reward for all the effort is an unforgettable view into the famous Valley of the Ten Peaks and the Paradise Valley to the north. After numerous switch backs the trail leaves the trees behind and journeys through alpine meadows dotted with small lakes.
HELEN LAKE
Distance: 12 km/ 7.5mi. Gain: 455 m/ 1,500ft
Located on a beautiful 25 minute drive north of Lake Louise on the famous Icefields Parkway, this hike can be a wildflower lover's paradise. At the exquisite setting of Helen Lake, we stop for lunch and take in the alpine splendor. For those with a little extra energy, we can continue up to a high ridge crest for unobstructed 360 degree views.
MT FAIRVIEW
Distance: 10km/ 6mi. Gain: 1000m/ 3,300ft
Starting from the shore of Lake Louise, we hike up the moderately steep Saddleback Pass trail, aiming for a pass between Mt. Fairview and Saddle Peak. Once at the pass, we enjoy a break. From here, the trail steepens and becomes rougher terrain as we ascend the south face. The top is a broad ridge with spectacular views in all directions.
