Notes from our Sommelier
As a globally renowned luxurious hotel destination, we here at the Fairmont Chateau Lake Louise strive to create and maintain a wine list that is regionally focused while complimenting our international wine neighbours from who we draw our inspiration. We are pleased to offer an extensive selection of wines, everything from up and coming gems from the new world, to the classic cornerstones of the old world.
With the introduction of the Vintners Quality Alliance (VQA) program came new Canadian standards. These standards introduced viticulture, winemaking, and labeling guidelines. Winemakers were given a benchmark for which to aim, and the new era for Canadian wines was in full swing. Today, the world, and most importantly, Canada, is beginning to embrace VQA wines.
Here in Lake Louise, we are committed to maintaining a list emphasizing a strong focus on quality Canadian VQA wines. If you've been reluctant to try the new breed of Canadian wines - don't be! From clean, crisp fresh wines to bold, intense fruit reds - Canadian wines have never been better. From the Chateau Cellar I personally recommend:
Quail's Gate Chasslas/Pinot Blanc, Okanagan, B.C.
Blasted Church Pinot Gris, Okanagan Falls, B.C.
Suman Ridge Gewurztraminer, Okanagan, B.C.
Quail's Gate 'Family Reserve' Pinot Noir, Okanagan, B.C.
Cedar Creek Merlot, Okanagan, B,C,
Osoyoos Larose Meritage, Osoyoos, B.C.
And to top off the evening: Jackson Triggs 'Proprietors Reserve' Riesling Icewine or Gehringer Brothers Cabernet France Icewine
Wonderful on their own, but even better accompanied by classic Canadian cuisine. Whether you are dining in the luxurious 4 diamond Fairview Dining Room, the warm and cozy Walliser Stube Swiss fondue house, or the urban and upbeat Tom Wilson Steakhouse, we are sure you will find these wines an excellent compliment to your culinary experience. Please do not hesitate to request myself, Tarrah MacPherson to further assist you in making the perfect selection for your dining experience.
