Downtown Arts District
The Citadel Theatre, the Winspear Centre for Music, and the Art Gallery of Alberta are all within a three-block radius of The Fairmont Hotel Macdonald. Even if you’re not going to a show, these marvelous buildings are art themselves and are definitely worth a visit. Along the way, don’t miss also the Shaw Conference Centre and City Hall, too.

John Janzen Nature Centre
Located in the heart of the river valley, the John Janzen Nature Centre allows you to explore and enjoy nature with its interpretive trails. Several programs and exhibits are offered, geared toward increasing awareness and appreciation for nature.

The oldest municipal course in Canada, the Victoria Golf Course is a popular choice for locals and visitors alike, and has been ranked as one of the best municipal courses in the world.

Rutherford House & Hawrelak Park
Spend the day with your children indulging in some of Alberta's history and enjoying the Edmonton's beautiful outdoors. Start off your day at the Rutherford House, the former residence of Alberta's first premier. The mansion, from the Edwardian era, is now a provincial historic site after being restored to the year 1915. Situated at the edge of the University of Alberta's campus overlooking Edmonton's scenic River Valley, you can enjoy a historic tour of the house with an interpreter, and treat your family to a delicious meal in the Arbour restaurant. It is then a short drive to Hawrelak Park, one of the city's gems in the River Valley. The physical centerpiece of the park is a man-made lake that is home to ducks, geese, and gulls in the summer. Paddleboat rentals allow you to explore the lake - and in the winter, the very same pond becomes a large open-air skating pond!
