Tulúm 9am to 10am: Driving from Fairmont Mayakoba heading south for one hour will bring you to Playa del Carmen, which is the historical Mayan city of Tulúm.
10am-12am: The Mayan culture has an extraordinary cultural and architectural heritage and they also had a precise calendar and written language. This impressive archeological site attracts millions of visitors every year. Discover Mayan architectural jewels framed by amazing views of the Caribbean Sea. Tulúm is relatively small compared with other Mayan cities like Chichen Itza, but nevertheless, it is a must see. Tulúm is the third most visited archeological site after Chichen Itza and Teotihuacan.
12:30pm–2:30pm: After a light lunch, you will find several cenotes (subterranean water caves). We highly recommend snorkeling in the crystal clear waters of the cenotes within Tulúm, it is an experience you will never soon forget. The most popular ones are Maya Blue, Naharon, Temple of Doom, Tortuga, Vacaha, and Grand Cenote between many others.
Chichen Itza This is one of the most impressive cities of the Mayan culture and was recently recognized as one of the New 7 Wonders of the World. Chichen Itza is 2.5-hour drive from The Fairmont Mayakoba (one way). A full day spent at this archeological wonder is highly recommended in order to find the magical meaning of every structure, like El Castillo (The Castle), El Templo de los Guerreros (The temple of the Warriors) amongst others. Chichen Itza was architecturally designed with perfect symmetry, which is a testament to the equinox ceremony that takes place every year on March 21st, where millions of visitors are gathered to observe the movement of the Kukulkan God (a snake) coming down from El Castillo. This is an amazing event that exemplifies how the Mayans designed their palaces so that they are perfectly aligned with the universe.
