Driving Directions
From St. John's Airport (about 15 minutes):
- Travel on Airport Road, turn left at the intersection onto Portugal Cove Road
- Travel south on Portugal Cove Road staying in the left lane. This road then changes to New Cove Road
- At the bottom of New Cove Road turn right onto Kingsbridge Road
- Continue through TWO sets of traffic lights
- At the second set of lights, you will see The Fairmont Newfoundland on the left
- Continue through lights down Ordinance Street, turn left onto Duckworth Street and immediately turn left onto Cavendish Square
From Ferry at Port aux Basques:
- Take TransCanada Highway from Port aux Basques and travel east for about 10 to 12 hours at which point you will begin to enter St. John's
- Just before entering the city limits, take the off ramp (on your right), which says 'downtown St. John's'
- Continue east for about 20 minutes until you come to the off ramp, which says 'Water Street'
- Take this turn-off and continue on Water Street and then turn left onto the 'Hill O' Chips'
- Turn right at the top of the hill and continue east
- The Fairmont Newfoundland will be straight in front of you
Ferry Information
- Marine Atlantic provides a vital link between the island of Newfoundland and the Canadian mainland
- Its modern fleet includes Canada's two largest super ferries, MV Caribou and MV Joseph and Clara Smallwood
- Passenger and vehicle service is provided year-round between Port-aux-Basques and North Sydney, with additional service in summer between North Sydney and Argentia
- In the winter, guests coming to The Fairmont Newfoundland are advised to fly from Halifax or Sydney - the ferry only runs between Port-aux-Basques and North Sydney and the drive from Port-aux-Basques to St. John's is 919 kilometers (571 miles)
- In the summertime, however, the ferries run between North Sydney and Argentia, and the City of St. John's is only 131 kilometers (81 miles) from the ferry docking point in Argentia
