Fairmont Hotels & Resorts is a leader in sustainable tourism and was one of the world’s first hotel companies to embrace environmental stewardship in its daily operations. The luxury brand’s Green Partnership Program, once referred to by National Geographic Traveler as “the most comprehensive environmental program in the North American hotel industry,” focuses on sustainability, mainly improvements in the areas of waste management, energy and water conservation, as well as community outreach through local groups and partnerships. Initiatives include a green conferencing solution dubbed Eco-Meet, recycling and organic waste diversion in the hotels' kitchens, retrofitting energy efficient lighting, purchasing green power, sourcing sustainable seafood, creating rooftop herb gardens at properties and redistributing food and gently used goods to those in need. Fairmont was also the first luxury hotel group to address climate change, as part of the World Wildlife Fund’s (WWF) Climate Savers program. Fairmont has pledged to reduce operational CO2 emissions from its existing portfolio of hotels to 20% below 2006 levels by 2013. By late 2010, Fairmont had cut its CO2 output by 8.4 percent, almost half way to its total commitment. For more information on Fairmont's Green Partnership, please visit
