Fairmont The Queen Elizabeth wins Best Catered Event by a hotel

Event professionals from around the world gathered in Chicago on January 18, 2013 to honor nominees and winners of the Gala Awards, presented by Special Events magazine at The Special Event show. The award, handed out since 1986, is the oldest, most prestigious distinction in special events.
The outside catering service of Montréal’s Fairmont The Queen Elizabeth – RE Le Traiteur– won the coveted prize for best catered event produced by a hotel banquet department for the 2012 Daffodil Ball, a fundraising gala for the Canadian Cancer Society. The Ball organizer, Alison Silcoff Events also won for best event produced for a nonprofit organization.
Nearly 700 guests at the annual Daffodil Ball enjoyed a highly creative "Alice in Wonderland" themed menu that included "Bee-yoo-tiful Soup"—rabbit consommé served from silver teapots accompanied by puff pastry "pocket watches"; Small and large shellfish in a pool of tears; Humpty Dumpty eggs—some 2,100 eggshells with three different fillings including foie gras crème brulée and an astounding dessert replicating a breakfast special with sunny side up eggs and bacon. Other highlights included a towering "hat" cake, petits fours "sandwiches" and liquid-nitrogen maple "popsicles."
