Beaches and Activities at The Fairmont Royal Pavilion Barbados Hotel & Resort

2-3 Hour Itineraries

Walk About
Holetown (20 minutes walking or 5 minutes by taxi) is where John Powell landed in 1625 to claim Barbados in the name of England’s King James. Holetown has a wide variety of duty free stores and local and international cuisines. Just north of Holetown is the Folkstone marine museum and visitors center, an under water park and sanctuary, providing the perfect fun filled morning or afternoon including the opportunity to snorkel at the marine reserve (snorkeling equipment available for rent at the center).

The Rum Tour
The Mount Gay Rum distillery is one of the oldest in the world. This makes them experts in the art of rum making. They are all the better equipped to teach you the colorful history of rum. Learn about the refining, ageing, blending and bottling of rum. The tour is interesting and enjoyable, giving insight into the islands history. The highlight of the tour is tasting the selection of fine rums.

Tour Mobile
Barbados’s gentle rolling landscape and magnificent scenery make the island a real treat to explore. Hiring a car is an excellent idea because this allows you to travel around at your own pace. Driving in Barbados is simple; drivers must have a local driver’s permit, which can be obtained at any local Police Station or most Car Rental offices. Just produce a valid driver’s license and pay Bds$10.00 for your driver’s permit which is valid for one year. In Barbados we drive on the left and should you get lost on your travel, just acknowledge the bus stop that says “To City” to put you back on your journey.

Historic Treasure- Visit a Plantation House
St. Nicholas Abbey is one of the finest examples of a wonderfully restored plantation home. The mansion house of St. Nicholas Abbey is exceedingly well built in the English Jacobean style (early to mid 17th century). This historic property includes a magnificent historic house, sugar boiling house and ancient outbuildings and wonderful woodlands of silk cotton and sandbox trees and the tallest cabbage palms in the island.
