The Fairmont San Francisco, a landmark “crown jewel” of the City by the Bay for more than a century, is undertaking an exciting comprehensive room refresh of all of its 591 guest rooms and suites, which commenced in December 2013.   This $21 million endeavor led by ForrestPerkins, a U.S-based interior architecture and design firm that specializes in luxury and landmark hotels, resorts, spas and multi-residential projects, incorporates stylish new furnishings and interior updates to each of the already-stunning classic-meets-contemporary hotel accommodations. ForrestPerkins’ efforts have been facilitated by its local San Francisco office where Clifford R. Tuttle (ASID, LEED AP, NEWH, Senior Vice President) manages the interior design practice. Mr. Tuttle worked as Director of Design for eight years in Washington, DC, before launching the San Francisco branch of the firm. Tuttle’s extensive experience in the hospitality design profession includes the design and management of projects in the United States and Southeast Asia.

ForrestPerkins’ stunning updates to the guest rooms and suites, which are situated in the hotel’s Main Building and Tower Building, celebrate a new era that aims to both delight return visitors and welcome a new generation to discover the world-renowned hotel’s rich history and timeless glamour. The design team has worked meticulously to present a sophisticated, tailored look that pays homage to the property’s storied history and iconic architecture and style while blending in contemporary touches.
The Fairmont San Francisco is showcasing two new design schemes: The hotel’s guest rooms feature a “jewel box” – inspired look, with bright sapphire blues and crisp accents of contemporary platinum and pewter.  Each room is accented by Czech crystal lamps custom designed by ForrestPerkins and manufactured by Preciosa Lighting, with hand-blown glass chandeliers by Alger-Triton.  Shaw guest room carpets are designed as a tone-on-tone floral paisley pattern, inspired by the lavish gardens on the grounds of the property. Each fabric is reminiscent of a men’s suit, giving the room a bespoke, customized feel.  The Suites in the Main Building have been updated to elaborate on the jewel box concept, with personalized sofas by JL Furnishings, stunning glass tables, and hand-blown floor lamps with a smoky grey ombre finish by Preciosa Lighting.   Suites feature art inspired by the many musical performers who have graced the hotel’s ballrooms and have sung about their love of San Francisco.  The hotel’s updated family-style suite options, which feature roomy pullout couches and enhanced seating areas, are perfect for accommodating multi-generational or group travelers.
  The Tower Building guest rooms offer stunning views of the city, combined with a neutral color palette of warm taupe, bright silver and cream lacquer accents. Each room features stylish seating designed with a crown-shaped back, reminding guests that The Fairmont San Francisco sits proudly atop Nob Hill.
All guest rooms are equipped with features and amenities essential to the modern traveler, with several featuring a private pull-out bar by Cheng Meng that houses tea service and a glamorous mid-century dressing table with glass lamps, dressing stool and large vanity mirror. Visitors can also enjoy in-room artwork by local artists, which showcase the most striking sights of San Francisco.
Guests will enjoy new custom corridor carpets by Crossley Carpets, designed to feature interwoven diamond and pearl medallions along the corridor in bold sapphire, pewter and gold tones.  In addition, the hallways showcase eye-catching images sourced by famed local photographer, Fred Lyon, who worked with ForrestPerkins and Studio EL to select stand-out photos from his 1940-50s San Francisco archives.
