Fairmont Leaders Walk The Talk

Fairmont Hotels & Resorts’ leaders across the Golden State will swap their business suits for toques, aprons, and uniforms during the month of May. Executive level hoteliers from five California Fairmont properties (Fairmont Newport Beach, Fairmont Miramar Hotel & Bungalows, Fairmont San Jose, Fairmont San Francisco and the Fairmont Sonoma Mission Inn & Spa) will leave their desks and spend a shift “on the floor.”
The program aptly titled “Walk in Your Shoes” is the brain-child of Tom Klein, Regional Vice-President of Operations and General Manager of the Fairmont San Francisco. “This annual program provides property leaders with a better understanding and deeper appreciation of the work that our valued colleagues undertake each day in order to surpass the expectations of our guests. This popular initiative allows our executives who often get caught up in the daily hustle and bustle of leading, managing, scrambling, listening, negotiating, supervising, facilitating, and convincing to get back to hospitality basics,” shares Klein.
Across the state, Fairmont senior-level leaders will scrub, polish, greet and sauté. On May 15, 2014, Regional Vice-President of Operations and General Manager Tom Klein will aptly serve as the legendary hotel’s front door ambassador. In sunny Southern California, G.M. Karl Kruger will swap his business suit and tie for a pair of coveralls as he assists in the Engineering Department, while Fairmont Sonoma Mission Inn & Spa, General Manager Rick Corcoran, will don a bellman uniform and assist guests with luggage at Wine Country’s premier destination resort. Kelley Cosgrove who heads the operation at the Fairmont San Jose will take a shift in Royal Service where she will showcase her effective and engaging communication skills and Matthew Lehman, top brass at the Fairmont Miramar Hotel & Bungalows, will chop, dice and julienne under the direction of the hotel’s famed culinary team.
