Fairmont San Francisco’s Concierge Team showcases many years of dedication and training to their profession. Tom Wolfe – America’s First Concierge

When Tom first arrived at Fairmont, in 1973, the Concierge did not yet exist in the United States. Tom, who trained as a Concierge in Europe, was fortunate to have worked with legendary Concierges in London and Paris, whose lineage went right back to Caesar Ritz. Upon his arrival, Tom saw a great opportunity to take this revered European tradition, inject it with an American 'can do' spirit, and implemented the concept to Fairmont San Francisco. And so Fairmont became the first hotel in the United States to offer this unique service to its guests.

In 1978, Tom founded the US chapter of the international organization of hotel lobby concierges, Les Clefs d’Or (the Golden Keys Society), which at the time was recognized as the 19th member section of this international guild of professionals.  Now, as Concierge service proliferates - at department stores, health spas, and even pet shops - the meaning still resonates – personalized, caring service provided by a local contact with the guests' interests at heart.

Steve Struck

Steve joined Fairmont San Francisco Concierge Team in 1995, from the New York area. He shares that he is most fortunate to have met so many wonderful guests from all walks of life in his Fairmont career to-date. Many of our guests have been visiting us for 20, 30, 40 and sometimes 50 years. Most times, it feels like I am welcoming old friends back to my home, and their home away from home."

Steve's goal as concierge is to provide the ultimate guest experience for each and every guest. He continually works with the team to develop ways to exceed guest expectations and turn moments into memories for our guests."

Charlotte Stengel

Charlotte is a truly international member of the Team, as she joined us from the Czech Republic in 2007. As the newest addition to the Concierge Team, Charlotte has a natural talent making our guests feel very "at home" and is exceptionally knowledgeable about the San Francisco and Bay Area region.

“What do I like most about my profession?" Charlotte asks, and then responds, "Being creative, meeting the day-to-day challenges, looking after different guests, and discovering the best-of-the-best in this spectacular City. Even on her days off, Charlotte loves to explore local restaurants and museums, and seeing the various pieces that comprise the mosaic of San Francisco. "I enjoy traveling, snowboarding, going to the beach, hiking and outdoor activities.”
