The service was wonderful but the food was terrible at the restaurant.

Wobbly toilet, wobbly lamps with mismatched lightbulbs, flat pillows, dusty room, water spots on the glasses. But the building is charming.
I enjoyed the history which is prominently displayed, as well as the service. However, the hotel feels tired and is in need of an update.
I booked two suites. On Saturday morning (March 2, 2024) the room to my suite opened and a woman walked in. I had just gotten out of the shower (yes, I was naked), I shouted at her and jumped into the closet. My partner went into the hall; saw the woman, one apparent security person and two other hotel staff members The woman had locked herself out of her room and security let her into our room. I called and spoke with Noria and explained my horror and extreme displeasure. I felt the hotel had committed a cardinal sin in the hospitality business; it let someone into my room and jeopardized our security and privacy. Noria called back later and explained that the security person was so engaged in a conversation with this unknown woman that he opened our room in error, I guess at the direction of the woman. Because it was a suite, it not like this would be an easy mistake, the doors are not adjacent and the room number and a large plaque announcing the Edinburgh Suite were clearly visible. I also question how she established her identity at either the front desk or to security since she had no handbag or wallet visible. If she had no ID, which I believe she didn't, security should have escorted her into the room and been provided valid ID before they left the room. This did not happen. Although Noria was pleasant and solicitous, I did not have the feeling that understood the seriousness of what had happen to us. That night I keep waking up, thinking there could be someone in our room. That may seem overly dramatic, but that's the effect this had. I can only imagine what would have happened if someone was let into Madonna's room, another guest in the hotel during part of our stay. We certainly are not celebrities, but we deserve to receive a better level of care and concern than happened on our last stay.
Staff was very good and well appointed room

First time staying at the Fairmont in San Francisco. The service, food, accommodations were fantastic. We loved the personal service and acknowledgment we received in the restaurants. Tonga was a surprise hit for us. We loved it. And the views from our room were incredible.
