Pike Place Market & Olympic Sculpture Park Stroll down to Pike Place Market and watch the vendors set up, grab a nibble and some caffeine to keep your strength up (The Crumpet Shop, Le Panier, the original Starbucks). Take the Pike Place Hill down to the Waterfront and walk north along the piers to the new Olympic Sculpture Park. Wind your way up the zigzag path through the park and enjoy the art and the views. Download an audio walking tour of the Olympic Sculpture Park narrated by Seattle Times Art Critic Sheila Farr. Available at the park or the concierge desk, guests can also pick up an accompanying map. Go one block more to First Avenue and turn right (south). Take in the small, local shops as you head back towards Pike Place Market on First Avenue and stop in at Pike Place Market for a meal at one of the outstanding local restaurants there. Top suggestions include the newly renovated Matt’s in the Market, or Chez Shea.
Bloedel Reserve The Bloedel Reserve is located on Bainbridge Island and is comprised of 150 acres of private landscaped gardens, ponds, meadows and wildlife habitat with sweeping views of Puget Sound from the old Bloedel residence. The gardens are made more tranquil by the fact that they take only a limited number of reservations daily so the gardens are never crowded. A visual 35-minute Washington Ferry Boat ride from downtown Seattle will land you in the town of Bainbridge. The gardens are a 20-minute drive or taxi from the boat. Allow at least two to three hours to tour the gardens, and then head back to the town of Bainbridge for handcrafted ice cream at Mora Iced Creamery or a pastry at Bainbridge Bakers.
Kayaking On Lake Union Urban Kayaking in Lake Union is a great treat on a beautiful day, no experience necessary. Kayaks and good Mexican cuisine are available at Agua Verde Restaurant and Paddle Club. From there you can paddle east into the Washington Park Arboretum where narrow waterways wind below an intricate freeway exchange. The Arboretum is home to dragonflies, ducks, geese, heron, turtles, eagles, red winged blackbirds, kingfisher and the elusive beaver. Paddle southwest and explore the eclectic houseboat neighborhoods that rim Lake Union. Find a spot on the deck, once your adventure is finished, for a torta or burrito and a margarita.
