I'd have to give it a 5. I've been coming to this hotel since the 1990s and, as a CEO, took my executive team there for retreats at least a dozen times. I'm a big fan of the warm pools and the spa. But there were a number of disappointments on this trip. When we arrived in our room we found macarons ( lovely) but they were covered with ants ( horrible). I also found ants crawling on my skin when I was trying to sleep ( in bed!). When I mentioned this to the front desk there was a deadpan response - no offer to clean the room, offer us a box of macarons, or to discount our stay. Nothing! It also took over 2 hours to deliver my sister's suitcase to our room , despite repeated requests. We were also surprised by the ridiculously high bed with a climbing step only on one side. And by how cold the large pool was. And by the fact that complimentary lobby coffee service was cut off at 8am. And that, yes we could get a late checkout at noon, but there would be a $50 charge. The right answer would have been that you were very sorry but you had a full hotel that night and needed the room. I among others have remarked in the past by how deeply disappointed I am that the beautiful ceiling mural in the spa was destroyed. That was a beautiful and memorable piece of history, and it is sad to see it gone with no effort to restore it. I was also appalled by the screams coming regularly from the cold plunge bucket - exactly the wrong mood for a relaxing spa. But there were other nice things, including the new poolside spa employee ( Fernando?) who was remarkably attentive and kind. Great hire! And the man at the salon who does pedicures was also a highlight. My biggest request is that you restore the good neighbor program. I would happily drive up from San Rafael during quiet weekdays to spend discounted days at the spa on a regular basis. As a former CEO and now an executive leadership coach I often recommend venues for retreats and other gatherings. I am currently recommending other locations but would love to recommend SMI if i saw more evidence if 5 star service.

Staff, meal were good as expected. Room Airconditioning systems was not good, it has cold air and not hot enough. The shower was not hot enough. I could not enjoy shower time.
Staff was very helpful, great food, and amenities. My only complaint and it’s was very annoying, the mattress in my room needs replaced desperately. Bothe th left and right side had large divots from where people were sleeping. This caused a noticeable hump in the middle of the bed. Not very comfortable and knowing that only really old mattresses get like this creeped me out a bit as who wants to sleep on an old, worn out, dirty mattress.

Food and service were good. Tracy and Nancy and the banquet staff were all nice and provided great service. However, the Big 3 meeting space was a disaster with our Chief People officer calling day 1 a subpar experience for a corporate offsite and 2 of our employees saying this was the worst offsite meeting room they have experienced thus far. Not only was the street noise detracting from the concentration necessary to listen to the speaker, the audio/mike was not loud enough even after we asked AV to come adjust the sound levels (it was better). In addition, there was a city tree trimming on March 4 that lasted hours, pretty much the afternoon session of our offsite. The noise was exacerbated by the wires having gone through the window on top of the double doors so it couldn't be closed completely and we could hear the crosswalk sounds every time a pedestrian crossed the street. In addition, the bathroom water was turned off, so we had to walk in the rain to the bathrooms in another part of the hotel campus.

Neighboring room had a group of friend that had a few too many drinks, talking loudly 11:30pm - 2:30am non-stop and made things worse by taking the conversation to their balcony patio for all to here. Would not recommend staying in the 200s suites, as one rowdy neighbor means no sleep for the entire section.
Loved the service the excellent food and how well my group was taken care of during our visit to sonoma for a team building. Would DEFINITELY book there again for my business group or personal. Ps: can't wait to have my husband and I stay there once, I've told him all about it.
