Travel + Leisure magazine set out to determine which spas follow through on their promise of relaxation and rejuvenation and asked their readers to rate the best destination spas in their annual Travel + Leisure World's Best Awards survey. The Spa at the Fairmont Sonoma Mission Inn ranked impressively as number 14 in the Continental US/Canadian region.  Sister Willow Stream Spa at the Fairmont Scottsdale was also recognized in this top tier.
Kelley Cosgrove, General Manager of the Resort, shares “we are incredibly proud of this most recent accolade.  With so many spa options available, spa guests are becoming more discerning in their choice of spa facilities and services; our team continually strives to create the ultimate spa experience. We have thoughtfully designed a number of unique, locally inspired experiences that promise to relax and restore.  Our locally-inspired signature treatments include:   Couples’ Wine and Roses, a Sonoma Lavender Kur, and our signature Watsu.” (A nurturing 'floating' massage performed in the resort’s 'al fresco' pool, fed by geo-thermal mineral water, Watsu combines Zen Shiatsu, a form of massage that emphasizes stretching to increase energy flow.)”
The Fairmont Sonoma Mission Inn & Spa’s elegant 40,000 square foot spa, built on the historic site first revered by Native American Indians for its healing waters, is one of the only spa resorts in the United States with its own source of natural thermal mineral water, which flows 1,100 feet directly beneath the Inn at 135 degrees.   The Spa pays homage to the Native Americans who first discovered the Sonoma waters, as well as ancient Egyptian, Greek and Roman civilizations, which believed in the axiom ‘Sanitas per Aquas,’ or healing through water.  Beautifully designed with many amenities to promote health, relaxation, and rejuvenation, the spa’s atmosphere is one of sensual luxury.  A wood-burning fireplace complements the lounge.  Resting rooms, the loggia, and a healthful snack bar make a full day at the spa a comfortable opportunity for guests.

Signature spa features include a self-guided Bathing Ritual; herbal steam; individual mineral baths; private whirlpools; a dedicated Watsu pool; special Vichy showers; the King’s Bath and treatment rooms for couples.

Wine Country’s premier destination resort has captured other note-worthy awards and accolades including Top 54 Spas, Condé Nast Traveler, AAA Four Diamond hotel rating, and Best Mineral Spring Resort, Spa Finder Magazine.  The hotel’s signature restaurant, Santé boasts a Four Diamond AAA designation and Wine Spectator’s Award of Excellence.
