Inspired by Europe's finest hotels, The Fairmont Turnberry Isle Resort & Club was developed in the early 1970s as an exclusive sports Mecca for private club members with outstanding golf, tennis, marina and spa facilities. With its rich history as the host site for the Florida PGA Championship, PGA Seniors, LPGA Tours and the Raymond Floyd Turnberry Isle Junior Classic, the resort has from the beginning been a place to highlight and celebrate excellence.
In 1989, the resort underwent major reconstruction to take its place as a world-class resort. The US$80 million expansion project resulted in a masterpiece of classic architectural style, with pillars, arched promenades and terracotta roofs. The striking transformation added guest rooms and suites, restaurants, lounges and conference center. The resort's unspoiled beauty has always attracted celebrities, world leaders, prize-winning authors and major motion pictures, such as Demi Moore's Strip Tease and Stuck on You starring Matt Damon and Greg Kinnear, have been filmed on property.
In 1999 the resort added its final guest wing, the Jasmine wing, adding 112 rooms and 11 suites to our resort. Within the Jasmine are the resort's two Grand Presidential Suites each boasting 4,400 square-feet of interiors, terrace and balconies.
In 2001, the resort opened its 25,000 square-foot, state-of-the-art Willow Stream Spa and fitness center. Conveniently located and adjacent to the main entrance, the spa was designed by renowned resort architect Tag Galyean. A dramatic 40- foot curved glass wall topped with a skylight ascends throughout the three-story structure enhancing the spa's beautiful Mediterranean-style exterior. The interior of the spa is an eclectic mix of design, combining elements that both suggest tropical energy and encourage complete relaxation through its soothing colors and welcoming ambiance. With its array of international ritual services, beautiful appointments and highly trained team of therapists, the Willow Stream Spa has earned numerous accolades and awards distinguishing it as one of the finest spa facilities in the country.
In 2006, the resort returned to its beginnings as its original developers, Turnberry Associates, once again acquired the property. A $150 million renovation project quickly ensued taking the resort from great to amazing. Both 18-hole golf courses, originally designed by Robert Trent Jones, Sr. and re-interpreted by golf great Raymond Floyd, underwent a $30 million reconstruction project. All guest rooms, spa facilities, conference center, Ocean Club, restaurants and resort common areas have been completely renovated to the standards befitting a legendary, luxury resort.
With The Fairmont Turnberry Isle's oversize and beautifully appointed guest rooms, magnificent vistas of tropical foliage, soothing water features and Audubon bird refuge, unparallel recreational facilities and warm and engaging services, The Fairmont Turnberry Isle Resort & Club is prepared to exceed each guest's expectations. |
