Walk About
Walk into Georgetown, dropping by the Old Stone House National Park Service Visitor’s Center. Shop along “M” Street and Wisconsin Avenue. Turn left on 30th Street and stop by the Chesapeake and Ohio (C&O) Canal on the way to Washington Harbour on the Potomac River. Walk along the path by the Potomac River to the Kennedy Center and Lincoln Memorial/Vietnam Memorial/Korean War Memorial. Returning on 23rd Street, passing the State Department. (Tony Pitch, a local historian and tour guide also has a great tour from Georgetown on Sundays).

Old Town Alexandria
Take the Metro from the Foggy Bottom stop at 24th and “I” Streets to Old Town Alexandria, exiting at the King Street station on the Blue Line. Wander around the shops and restaurants in this historic Virginia seaport town. OR Transfer at the King Street station to the Yellow line, ending at Huntington. Exit at the lower level (Huntington Avenue) of the station to catch a Fairfax Connector bus to Mount Vernon, George and Martha Washington’s home.

Tourmobile
Take the Metro to the Smithsonian Station (Orange and Blue lines). Get on the Tourmobile, located on the Mall side of the station. The Tourmobile is a two and a half hour “hop on, hop off” tram, with a tour guide who narrates as you pass the sights. There are 18 stops with in the city. At Arlington Cemetery, disembark to cross into the Cemetery and catch the internal Tourmobile for a tour of Arlington, including the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier where the changing of the guard occurs. Stops also include the Kennedy gravesites. A Tourmobile passes by stations every 30 minutes for those who wish to spend more time at a stop.
