Washington DC Hotels: Luxury Washington DC Hotel at the Fairmont The Fairmont Washington, D.C.
The Abraham Lincoln Memorial

The Abraham Lincoln Memorial is designed to resemble a Greek Doric Temple. Inside the memorial sits a large statue of Abraham Lincoln. The walls surrounding that statue are inscribed with his famous speeches including the Gettysburg Address and his second inaugural address. Above the inscriptions are a series of murals that represent truth, freedom and unity.

Abraham Lincoln, the sixteenth president of the United States, played a pivotal role in the history of formation of modern-day America. Not only did he abolish the legal institution of slavery but he also united the Northern and South States to reconcile the Union and preserve the U.S. Constitution. The Lincoln Memorial sits at one end of the National Mall in Washington DC, overlooking the Washington Monument.

The Lincoln Memorial is open to the public free-of-charge 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Park rangers are available to answer questions from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m., daily.

The Fairmont Washington D.C. hotel is located 13 blocks north of the Lincoln Memorial.
