BC Adaptive Snowsports

Vancouver B.C. – BC Adaptive Snowsports is excited to announce that Fairmont Chateau Whistler has contributed $10,000 to its Snowbility program. The funds will assist in training volunteer instructors around the province to increase capacity for delivering adaptive skiing and snowboarding lessons.

“We are absolutely thrilled to have the support of Fairmont Chateau Whistler. This level of support for volunteer instructor training will have a huge, ongoing impact on the participation of people with disabilities of all ages in adaptive snowsports,” says Wayne Leslie, CEO, BC Adaptive Snowsports.

“Snowsports create a deep sense of community, and they’re the reason so many of us live and play here,” states Norman Mastalir, Managing Director at Fairmont Chateau Whistler. “BC Adaptive Snowsports has done tremendous work providing access to this community for people with disabilities, and we are deeply honoured to support the Snowbility program and the legacy it leaves.”

Snowbility addresses the three main barriers for access to snowsports for people with disabilities:  volunteer instructor training, equipment for participants and facilities. Since 2007, Snowbility has assisted local clubs and ski hills to improve accessibility. We partner with local clubs throughout BC to provide a high quality experience for skiers and snowboarders with a disability.   Our equipment grant programs ensure all participants have access to the correct equipment, which is vital to ensuring each individual experience is a positive one. Since Snowbility was established in 2007, we have grown our pool of currently active volunteer instructors to approximately 800. Last year alone these volunteers delivered more than 4800 low or no cost lessons to children and adults with a disability.
