Fairmont Chateau Whistler Receives Certificate of Recognition for Workplace Health & Safety

Colleagues of The Fairmont Chateau Whistler can have peace of mind that their safety at work is a top priority as Fairmont has just become the first full service hotel in Whistler and the first golf course in Whistler to successfully complete the Certificate of Recognition (COR) program in partnership with WorkSafeBC and go2hr. The COR program recognizes companies who go beyond the legal requirements of the Workers Compensation Act and Occupational Health and Safety Regulation by taking the "best practice" approach to implementing health and safety and return-to-work programs.

“At Fairmont we always go above and beyond for our guests and by going through this healthy and safety audit process, we can ensure that we are doing the same for our colleagues” said Gabrielle Stauber, Health and Safety Coordinator at The Fairmont Chateau Whistler.  “Our goal is to help colleagues return to work sooner if they have been injured through modified or alternate duties, as it has been proven that returning to work not only increases the self-esteem of the colleague, but in most cases helps them to heal faster.”

The Fairmont’s health and safety program had long been in place and is supplemented by monthly meetings with colleagues from all departments of the hotel but Gabrielle wanted to engage colleagues further by augmenting the current system with new best practices, ensuring that health and safety is top of mind for colleagues when at work. Colleagues throughout the hotel were eager to help ensure that the COR audit process went as smoothly as possible and with a near perfect score of 99% for the return to work program, their hard work has certainly paid off.
