Our love affair with Winnipeg and the world started in 1970, the Centennial Year for Manitoba, and a year of great expansion in our city. The Richardson family, a nationally prominent Winnipeg family with close ties to the community through their grain business, built The Winnipeg Inn, the city's most modern business hotel, at the heart of Winnipeg's business and financial district. With Winnipeg once touted as 'Chicago of the North' and with our geographic location at the center of North America, the family opened the doors to a new decade with a hotel thoroughly equipped to welcome the business traveler of the day.

We have welcomed the world to our corner. From almost every member of the Royal family to rock royalty such as U2, The Rolling Stones, David Bowie and Rod Stewart, to Prime Ministers, Presidents and Heads of State, The Fairmont Winnipeg has been a home away from home.

While the past 30 years have forever made us The Only Place to Be in Winnipeg, our future looks to be even more exciting. With the opening of Fairmont Gold, the distinctive hotel within a hotel, and completion of ballroom and conference floor renovations, new lobby and expanded health club the future looks to be just as successful as our past.
