On May 25, 2014, the Kunshan delegation attended the Thomas and Uber Cups bidding presentation meeting held in New Delhi, India, and won the bid, making Kunshan the first county-level city in China to be awarded hosting rights for the Thomas and Uber Cup Finals. The event had been held in Hong Kong in 1996 and 1998, Guangzhou in 2002, and Wuhan in 2012. Winning the bid proves that Kunshan is becoming an internationalized city that has increasingly attracted the attention from world sports organizations.
