Discover
Reminiscent of the hot springs that beckoned travellers over 100 years ago, the pulsating waterfalls and the mineral pool in the heart of the Banff spa soothe troubled spirits.
The Beginning
William Cornelius Van Horne had a vision to bring the beauty of the Canadian Rocky Mountains to the rest of the world. He commissioned blueprints for an impressive hotel to be built at the convergence of the Bow and Spray River, in what is now known as Canada's first National Park. Construction began in 1887 and the hotel publically opened on June 1, 1888.
By the start of the twentieth century, the Banff Springs luxury Hotel had developed into one of the top three mountain getaways in North America. Disaster struck in 1926 when the original wooden hotel burnt down. It was rebuilt larger and in its present appearance commencing in 1928.
Roaring Twenties and the Great Depression
Throughout the 1920s and 30s, the hotel was able to combine day-to-day hotel life with the concept of luxurious hotel living. The depression played a part in the 'golden era' as well.
Through the 1940s to 60s, the hotel struggled to reclaim the success it had before the war. The hotel went through a significant change, adapting to the economics of the time. Transportation, convenience and availability to monetary funds jointly changed the whole perspective of the hotel.
"Since we can't export the scenery, we'll have to import the tourists."
William Cornelius Van Horne
By the 70s, the hotel reached a pivotal point. For the first time, Banff Springs remained open for the winter season, becoming a year-round resort destination. The 80s then brought expansion and renovation back to the hotel.

We stayed for a night at Fairmont Banff Spring for to celebrate my mom’s retirement and we are over the moon with our experience! Olhe at the front desk was amazing he exerted his effort to find us a room that will fit our needs. He was very very pleasant and accomodating! Upon check in the bellman who assisted us with our luggage was very helpful and even offered to provide us with some ice for the room. Our room was impeccable! Excellent view and cleanliness was at its best! Justin who delivered the extra blanket and microwave that we requested was very prompt and friendly. Our breakfast was amazing! The buffet had a large selection of breakfast items from smoothies to delectable bread and pastries, cheese and charcuterie not to mention the hot breakfast and the cold items. Anthony our server from Vermillion was the icing on the cake! He was extremely pleasant, answered all our question regarding the buffet and the breakfast menu. He made sure our breakfast was enjoyable ensuring our beverage are topped up all the time and constantly checking that we are enjoying and breakfast and anticipating our needs. My mom had a great retirement at the banffspring and we are already looking forward to out next stay.

Very nice, upgraded our room for the gold floor. The lounge was a great area to relax and chill for the evening. Having the food and drinks available was great. The food was good, great to wake up and have coffee and breakfast right there. All staff were helpful and nice. Had turndown service which was a nice surprise. The restaurants and bar in the hotel were lovely and all staff we dealt with were so friendly and nice to talk to. The hotel is within walking distance to town and on our way back we walked the trail by the river. Just a beautiful experience all around.
The hotel is in a beautiful location and extremely well-appointed. The rooms are very comfortable with plenty of pillows and towels. Every possible amenity has been thought of and the staff were all extremely helpful and kind. No matter what issue or concern came up - from how to get to town to ordering items to the room, the staff were very quick and polite in answering all my questions. I hosted a conference with approximately 200 attendees and I felt like I had a staff of 20 looking after my every need. I would definitely come back to the Fairmont Banff Springs for another event or personal travel.

I was travelling on my own, everyone was very helpful and really looked after me
All of the staff were amazing. Food at conference was top notch. Only negative, the room was extremely small. Smallest room that I've ever had at the Springs.
We stayed from a Friday to a Monday and had a wonderful time.

Such perfection, beautiful location, excellent staff and every need for our stay met beyond expectations.
Attended a conference here. My stay was perfect. Initially I was contacted to say I was a no show and was being charged for this. It ended up being a computer glitch but it took about an hour of my time to get it sorted out.
