Reminiscent of the hot springs that beckoned travellers over 100 years ago, the pulsating waterfalls and the mineral pool in the heart of the Banff spa soothe troubled spirits.
The Beginning
William Cornelius Van Horne had a vision to bring the beauty of the Canadian Rocky Mountains to the rest of the world. He commissioned blueprints for an impressive hotel to be built at the convergence of the Bow and Spray River, in what is now known as Canada's first National Park. Construction began in 1887 and the hotel publically opened on June 1, 1888.
By the start of the twentieth century, the Banff Springs luxury Hotel had developed into one of the top three mountain getaways in North America. Disaster struck in 1926 when the original wooden hotel burnt down. It was rebuilt larger and in its present appearance commencing in 1928.
Roaring Twenties and the Great Depression
Throughout the 1920s and 30s, the hotel was able to combine day-to-day hotel life with the concept of luxurious hotel living. The depression played a part in the 'golden era' as well.
Through the 1940s to 60s, the hotel struggled to reclaim the success it had before the war. The hotel went through a significant change, adapting to the economics of the time. Transportation, convenience and availability to monetary funds jointly changed the whole perspective of the hotel.
"Since we can't export the scenery, we'll have to import the tourists."
William Cornelius Van Horne
By the 70s, the hotel reached a pivotal point. For the first time, Banff Springs remained open for the winter season, becoming a year-round resort destination. The 80s then brought expansion and renovation back to the hotel.

The Banff Springs is indeed a majestical location. The conference we attended was wonderfully hosted. My husband and I have dietary restrictions and the staff managed them perfectly. Our room was underwhelming. The bed was comfy, but the room was small and very dry. The bathroom is tiny with a very small tub. It took close to 30 minutes of running both sink and tub just to get any hot water. Any all staff that we encountered were tremendous. I had a spa afternoon and was spoiled and pampered - LOVELY!
Enjoyed our time here. Beautiful holiday decor and friendly staff.
We believe Okee three nights to celebrate my 50th. From the moment we checked I. To the moment we checked out, everyone made us feel special. The extra touch with the birthday wishes and delicious cake were so thoughtful.
Beautiful facility. Staff were helpful and friendly.

I was flabbergasted how expensive everything was, I bought a banana, peanuts and small bag of chips at the coffee shop in the lobby and it was $15.00. I also had no hot water the first night or next morning, thankfully maintenance was able to fix for me, I wasn't able to shower before my course.
I love the service, activities, location, amenities especially for pets.
Great service by the team at the Banff Springs. They took care of all the details which allowed us to just have fun and relax. Will stay again.
It was amazing at the Springs Hotel. All of the staffs were very courteous and knowledgeable about where things were. There were plenty of activities to do in the hotel as well. Hopefully we can go back and visit again!
