Reminiscent of the hot springs that beckoned travellers over 100 years ago, the pulsating waterfalls and the mineral pool in the heart of the Banff spa soothe troubled spirits.
The Beginning
William Cornelius Van Horne had a vision to bring the beauty of the Canadian Rocky Mountains to the rest of the world. He commissioned blueprints for an impressive hotel to be built at the convergence of the Bow and Spray River, in what is now known as Canada's first National Park. Construction began in 1887 and the hotel publically opened on June 1, 1888.
By the start of the twentieth century, the Banff Springs luxury Hotel had developed into one of the top three mountain getaways in North America. Disaster struck in 1926 when the original wooden hotel burnt down. It was rebuilt larger and in its present appearance commencing in 1928.
Roaring Twenties and the Great Depression
Throughout the 1920s and 30s, the hotel was able to combine day-to-day hotel life with the concept of luxurious hotel living. The depression played a part in the 'golden era' as well.
Through the 1940s to 60s, the hotel struggled to reclaim the success it had before the war. The hotel went through a significant change, adapting to the economics of the time. Transportation, convenience and availability to monetary funds jointly changed the whole perspective of the hotel.
"Since we can't export the scenery, we'll have to import the tourists."
William Cornelius Van Horne
By the 70s, the hotel reached a pivotal point. For the first time, Banff Springs remained open for the winter season, becoming a year-round resort destination. The 80s then brought expansion and renovation back to the hotel.

Very nice . Was always wanting to stay there even with the high price so expected a lot for the price . The experience was good but I wouldn’t rate the room to be a $700 plus room . My biggest dissatisfaction was your so call guest experience charge of $60 . As a guest I took this as a cash grab . I was given a few reasons why but I get most of those at a $200 or less hotel . This just needs to be more aware of when your guests book . No surprise that way .
My first real get away for something fun that I wanted to do. At 51 I hadn't snowboarded in over three decades. Talked to a friend of mine and he wanted to go. He convinced me to spend a few dollars more and stay at the Fairmont Banff Springs. I hem and hawed about it, for my other activities i stay on the cheap. This was the most chill and relaxed environment! The staff were all wonderful. The stay was worth every dime and I am planning to see you next year in January for some more snowboarding!

Impeccable service from beginning to end. Spent the day in the Spa with massages and pedicures then a wonderful dinner in the Vermillion room. We wanted to dine at 1888 Chop house but it was closed on Sunday/Monday. Every team member encountered was delightful. Could not have asked for anything more.
Rooms are old and need to be refurbished. Not worth the price point.
From arrival, everything was perfect! Excellent service, the food impeccable, and accommodations superb! I travel a lot and FBS has set the bar extremely high!
From check in to the room and everything in between was perfect. The staff are amazing, very friendly and accommodating. The spa and pool facilities are world class.
Such a beautiful location with the kindest and most helpful staff. I so appreciated the kind and helpful staff!
From start to finish, the staff at Fairmont Banff Springs went above and beyond. Starting with a last-minute cancellation from the rest of my family, the staff quickly found me a better-suited room for just me. I was able to check in early as a bonus. Moreover, I also had to leave early due to a family emergency and the staff was very comforting and accommodating. Overall, I have nothing but great things to say.
Great service everywhere . Food was good but not great. Our main order in Italina restos came less that 10 minites after order--semed to be pre-cooked. Not great
We were in the hotel for the conference and prolonged our stay for beautiful weekend. Our window was looking to mountains and Bow valley. The view from the window was astonished! I liked all in this hotel: staff, cleanliness, service, pool. The only think that was disappointing was the room size: I did not have enough space to unpack my only one suitcase: Not enough space to put the suitcase and only one drover for clothes.
