I was in Edmonton for a recent conference. Location of the MacDonald is very convenient to the Shaw Conference Center and other amenities downtown Edmonton. Service was classy and courteous and room very nice.
While they stay itself was fine, there was a lot of confusion at checkout. I left a day early from my reservation and did check out a bit later. I was only charged for the 2 nights at the time, but my card was later charged the 3rd night without notification or a receipt. I was notified by voicemail that the charge would be disputed, but when I called for the refund they continued with the charge. It took over a week to get in touch with someone to send me a receipt for the charge. It was not worth the hassle.
We enjoyed our stay. The staff were pleasant and the room was fairly clean. One of the lights didn’t work and wallpaper pealing in bathroom.
I stayed for a couple of nights and as always I was greeted with at the door and at the front desk with genuine smiles and professionalism. During my stay I visited the lounge, the gym and the pool, and once again was greeted promptly and with smiles making me feel welcomed. There is no doubt the hotel is exceptional and the staff make it feel like home.

Comfortable hotel with accommodating service.
A surprisingly mediocre stay when compared to other Fairmont properties. Also, when I compare my experience with other hotels in the Edmonton Core, there was less value for money. It started with expensive and inconvenient parking options. My room had a pair of socks left behind by a previous guest, the bedside radio did not work, the in-room coffee options were limited, the wall-paper was peeling off the bathroom wall, the stairwell carpet was needing replacement, there were gaps between sprinkler heads and the ceiling, there was no attendant in the fitness area, there were no towels in the fitness area requiring me to 'drip-dry' after a swim, the fitness area equipment was, however, decent. Other than access to water with one's own bottle, there were no welcoming refreshments in the lobby of the hotel. Hotel meals were embarrassingly expensive (e.g. $30 hamburger). When walking in the surrounding community there were feelings of a lack of safety, with people passed out on benches and sidewalks, excrement on the sidewalk, and businesses that I used to frequent were shuttered or simply closed for business. I don't anticipate staying at this hotel again, when there are many more convenient and affordable options within a 1 km radius.

The furniture in the room was quite old. Definitely the most dated I've seen in a Fairmont.
As a looooooong time loyal personal and corporate Platinum customer I am shocked. The famous Fairmont service is being swallowed by L’Accor’s well known rigid and not customer oriented policy. First the room prices are outrageous! Up over 300% in the last three years. There is no recognition of loyalty. Check in at 4PM out by 11. No upgrades. No amenities. And the Hotel McDonald is OLD and tired. I had a Suite had was dirty, old furniture, crappy TV and a two star at five star prices. The front desk were awful. Any reasonable request was ignored. No room service after 11 PM! The brunch was $100 each! The “Royal Service” is gone and with a JW Marriott 2 blocks away - sparkling and new - so is my business and all my employees.
There are about 6 holds on my visa and I haven’t received a final bill either. I expressed my concern with the billing at the front desk and was assured a manager would call me, but that never happened. I’ve definitely had better service at Accor/Fairmont in the past. Beyond these billing issues my stay was good.
