Overall, nice place to be and a good spot to stay, close to where I needed to be in Edmonton. Only downside is that there is a persistent smell of their soap (roses?) and it can get to be too much for those like me who are sensitive to scents. Food was decent, if expensive.
Staff and room great. 7th floor lounge very cozy, but can get busy as not very large. No water bottles in room and phone did not work (could not check messages or contact front desk for assistance). Texted welcome number from hotel and they said they'd look into phone issue, but never heard back.
Always appreciate how we are treated here when we come to the city for medical appointments
Booking is never easy. When someone phones up who has stayed at this hotel for years and years regularly, there should be an immediate identification of a good customer and their room should be booked and not a long delay where all is checked and the room rate needs to be discussed and debated etc. Get with it!
I stayed for two nights the hold floor. The room was well appointed and the service was excellent. There were issues with the heating system which made it too hot to have a good sleep but the hotel was aware of the issue and was working on solutions. They were kind to recognize the setback and offered me a lovely experience in their restaurant. Overall a great stay.
Although pricier than most hotels in the area you have to weigh that with the amenities and experience you get with the Farimont. My one area for improvement is that it was a Friday night and the Edmonton Oilers were also playing. The Confederation lounge was extremely busy and a bit understaffed so they could not seat us even at 10:00 in the evening and we had to wait approx. 30 minutes even though we only had a party of two. By the time we sat we only had an hour and a half until the lounge closed so we only had time for one cocktail and a snack. We would have liked to see the lounge hours extended till 2:00am that night as we weren't ready to call it an evening and felt like we went to our room a little early. The lounge was still completely full at 11:45pm so I think most guests would have liked an extended experience.
From the time I valet my vehicle to the time I check out. This hotel always impresses. Michelle in the Harvest Room and Erin in the confederation lounge speechless every time with their fantastic service.

2nd year Christmas party. Great service, food and overall experience.
I have stayed at the Hotel MacDonald previously and it seems like the room standards have declined. I know it's an old building and that is part of the charm however, our room this time had a few problems. The shower was very slow to drain and was almost half full with dirty water taking a full 20 mins to drain. The outlets in the bathroom were so loose that you could not use a hair dryer as it kept falling out. I literally had to have my husband hold the plug into the wall so I could dry my hair. The outlets in the room on the desk were also loose and the phone in our room did not work. The furnishings were tired and that is ok. The bed was comfortable and that is great! Next year we will most likely stay at the JW Marriot. We were not greeted upon arrival and lugged our bags up to the room by ourselves which is fine but I have never experienced that ever at a Fairmont.
