Overall experience was ok. The hotel used to be "the Hotel" in Kona, but it needs a bit of upgrading. Our hotel room cards kept getting demagnetized. We had to get it fixed five times. We were staying in one of the oceanfront rooms, and it was not very fun to walk back & forth. I ended up aggravating my ankles, walking back & forth. Another thing we weren't very pleased with. We tried to get one of the oceanfront cabanas. We were told it was all fully committed the entire time we were there. BUT the whole time we were there, no one even used it. A bit disappointing.
We stayed in the Orchid Gold for 9 nights in celebration of my 50th birthday. It was fantastic! The Gold members (Juliana, Samuel, and Keisha) that I had been emailing for months prior to the trip were so helpful and it was great to finally meet them in person. We had a beautiful dinner on The Knoll of Brown's Beach House and our main server Kelsie and her team took such good care of us! The food was so good, we all went there again for dinner on the last night of our stay. Those working in the Gold lounge took such good care of us! We loved the hospitality of Nerlie, Chris, Lisa, and Cory. The diversity and the quality of the food was excellent and TMI alert, my digestion was the best it's ever been away from home (LOL). Loved that the property had easy beach access and a wonderful pool! My family had such a great time swimming and snorkeling all over! Not sure, when we can get back to the Big Island but the Fairmont Orchid will be a pull for any future trip. We could not recommend it enough!

For the price, I can't believe: 1. Even coconut trees are not trimmed and is a known danger in high wind.... to be honest, the city is doing better and that is saying something 2. 3 days laundry is unacceptable in a high end hotel. 3 days + no sunday and another day (I forgot which) is ludicrous 3. In one of your restaurants, all the entrees come before we even finish appetizers 4. Your wifi has speed that I remember in the 2000s Ok your staffs are friendly but they are way overworked. If you cannot handle the guest volume with your staffing, reduce registration. There is no way that I can recommend this experience at all
9 nights. Was wonderful. Wish the rooms were updated. Service was excellent from the pool shack to the beach shack to the deli to the front desk. I think the concierge services were just ok. The luau was also a highlight. I also think the restaurants could be better. We dined at Brown’s beach and it felt rushed… our entrees literally came 2 mins after our apps … there want room to put the food down. We dined more at the Mauna Lani which had excellent restaurants. I also think the cats are a bit weird.
It was awesome however master king bed very uncomfortable. It was leaning and needs a new frame or mattress. Woke up with back pain every day I slept (7 days). That is a big deal but other than that the stay was great. Before I stay again I would want to know if the beds are repaired or replaced.

Resort was beautiful! We had an issue with a flooded room from overflowing toilet. Not moved rooms initially, but after our travel agent reached out we were immediately moved to gold status suite.
I have vacationed on the big island countless times and have stayed at numerous properties—The Mauna Kea, The Four Seasons, Mauna Lani and The Fairmont Orchid. This most recent stay was undoubtedly the best experience I have ever had on the big island. The service was unmatched. The staff was attentive, kind, and above all accommodating. I informed them that this was a particularly special trip for me. I had just completed the Bar Exam and was planning to propose to my girlfriend. They went so far out of their way to make this an unforgettable experience for us. I cannot stress this enough. The room was breathtaking. We were upgraded to the beach front room and I was truly blown away. There is nothing quite like arriving in your room and being greater with the glorious sight of a Hawaiian sunset over the pacific. Furthermore, the hotel management was so incredibly gracious and thoughtful. For example, on one occasion during the middle of our stay, my room keys stopped working. A staff member let me into my room (after I presented ID) and when I said I was going to head down to the lobby to grab a fresh key, he insisted that I remain in my room and relax while he went to retrieve the key. That was so unnecessary but so unbelievably kind. THEN, on top of that gesture, when we returned from dinner that evening there was a hand signed letter from hotel management apologizing for the “inconvenience” of the room key breaking and an accompanying box of chocolate. I didn’t even complain! Yet they heard about the and felt it necessary to apologize and provide a generous gift as consolation. My heart melted. It was gestures like this that characterized our entire stay at the Fairmont Orchid. Every step of the way they were there, anticipating our wants and needs and immediately delivering. I was truly blown away. There is NO doubt in my mind that I will be back. While I have enjoyed stays at other luxury properties on the Big Island, after this trip I can say without a shred of doubt that the Fairmont Orchid will always have a special place in my heart and I cannot wait to return in the future. If I can summarize my stay briefly, from start to finish it felt like the staff was there to serve us personally, almost as if we were the hotel owners. Which—at a time where the hospitality industry is marred by labor shortages, overworked employees, and resources that are stretched too thin—is something I never could have imagined possible. I wish I could personally thank every single staff member and manager at that property for making our stay so special. I was genuinely moved. Can’t wait to revisit soon!
The staff were extremely friendly— location of the property was perfect for our needs since we were attending a wedding in Waimea
The Fairmont Orchid was the perfect spot for our 10 night family vacation. Our room, the pool/beach, amenities and restaurants met all of our needs! Would love to go back!!
