It's All About Art

With colorful street murals and contemporary art museums, Puerto Rico's art scene is unique and full of history, showcasing the island's distinct interpretation of Caribbean culture.

The Museo de Arte de Puerto Rico (MAPR), located in San Juan's artsy Santurce neighborhood, is one of the most important art and cultural destinations on the island. MAPR is composed of 130,000 square feet of modern spaces with 24 exhibition galleries featuring contemporary and classic pieces that date back to the 17th century.

The Museo de Arte Contemporáneo (MAC) is not to be missed if you want a taste of the island's modern side. Located very close to MAPR, this historical building was once a public school and features two floors filled with galleries showcasing contemporary artwork.

Puerto Rico's art extends beyond the walls of museums. Visitors will stumble across inspiring street art wherever they go - discovering large scale murals plastered on buildings, bridges and even parking spaces. Painted by local and international artists, these urban pieces tell the story of Puerto Rico from different and colorful perspectives.
