El Yunque Rainforest

Covering 28,000 acres, and receiving an average of 120 inches of rain per year, El Yunque National Forest is the only tropical rainforest in the US Forest System. Noted for its biodiversity, this enchanted rainforest park is home to hundreds of unique plant and animal species, including the island's famous coqui frog.

Park visitors can explore El Yunque's hiking trails, bathe in natural pools beneath waterfalls, or simply enjoy the pure air and incredible scenery. One of the most popular things to do in El Yunque is hiking to one of the natural pools to cool off with a swim. For expansive island views, drive to the Yokahú Observation Tower to witness ocean blue views in the distance and vast lush green mountains from an elevation of 1,575 ft.
