The fire alarm testing during the day affected some work I was trying to get done
For the second stay in a row the power was cut in my room at the Royal York after I requested to not be in a tower with the outage. When I moved, I was placed in a room (7-272) next to three elevators, which literally shook the room when they moved! I will need to take a break from staying here for a while...
Housekeeping staff was very courteous and friendly, room was very clean and tidy, as was the rest of the hotel. Thank you
I was in a rush leaving so didn’t make it to the front desk assuming you would email my statement or slide it under the door but I have not received it yet and do require it. Please email my final statement from my stay. Thanks!
The overall experience was good, staff was always very friendly and generally helpful. However, for a five star hotel, there are a number of things I would have expected to be better. First, the choice of vegan breakfast options is *very* limited. It makes little sense to pay for the buffet menu as few options there. The á la carte menu only had one vegan option (steel-cut oatmeal). Flexibility to make changes was not great (I was told I could have the avocado toast without the egg - but no offer of replacing it; my request to top the oatmeal with nuts and fresh fruits was denied - the kitchen apparently only offered things as one the menu). So despite the nice environment, ended up having to search for breakfast elsewhere. Second, the gym room is quite sparse. No barbell, and only one strength machine next to a couple of treadmills. Third, the sauna was not well managed. Going there Monday afternoon it was turned on but cold (set to 40°C). It took me 45 minutes (the entire time I had available) to get it heated up just so that one might call it a sauna (~65°C). The info outside says „allow 5 minutes to heat up“ but that is not realistic, unfortunately. Also, there was no ladle/cup in the sauna to produce some steam. Fifth, I found the lights in the room quite impractical: there is no master switch to turn on/off all lights, and no overhead light, but merely a couple of lamps which had to be turned on/off individually. Other than that, the room was fine, if a bit dated.
Gym doesn’t open until 6am. Way too late for a business hotel.
Was in town for a few days for business. Wanted a location close to Union Station, with a good reputation. I was very happy with the room. May return for a longer stay to explore the city some more!

As Guest in iconic hotel, feeling proud to stayed in Fairmont Royal Hotel, its very truly that turning Moments into Memories.I will say Fairmont Royal York Hotel is my favorite hotel..
Some details promised over the phone were not available or honoured upon arrival so be sure to get the name of the manager you speak with and request an email to verify agreements. Pool access was nice, hot tub had a little too much chlorine and left our skin red, but bakery coffee was amazing and restaurant food and service was incredible. Room was small and dated carpets and decor ( even though we paid for a renovated room) bit the linens and towels were so white and fluffy and abundant. Nice touch to receive robes in the room and available at the pool change room too. The room window opens which is nice but keep it closed or you may wake up to awful screaming on the street below or ask for a higher room. We were promised a high floor but were given a third floor stay. We were also the unfortunate people who were in the hotel as they performed a planned fire testing and drill but they did not mention this whatsoever so the morning of our departure was filled with alarm announcements for a very long time. We also witnessed a manager point at spots on the floor with his foot while the worker bent over to scrub vigorously the spot pointed to over and over. Very disturbing display of disrespect and demeaning behaviour to a worker. The entrance is also not accessible with many stairs to carry luggage up and down. The scent of the lobby near the elevator was divine. It’s hard to say if Things could have been different , some of the features were nice but I can’t trust I’ll get what I think I’m getting when I book. Oh did I mention there was a power outage planned and we were only notified AFTER we booked and the only offer to accommodate was a free of charge cancellation? This is the matter that we had called several times about to discuss with unreturned voice mails. Finally when we reached a live manager to discuss a discount on the room rate for the inconvenience of no power or wifi, when we checked in this agreement was no where to be found on our account. A vacation should not be stressful and the least stressful part should be your hotel stay. Good location and lots of history but I won’t go through that again. They also charged us for something after checking out. No clue for what, maybe the water in the room had a cost but this was not posted anywhere. Either that or they charged me for a coffee I paid cash for. Ridiculous.
