For 89 years, Fairmont Royal York has been the place to celebrate the festive season, and this year, in a countdown to the hotel’s 90th anniversary and reveal of its complete hotel transformation in June 2019, they will light-up Toronto’s skyline with, “A Miracle on Front Street.” The annual Tree Lighting Ceremony in support of Children’s Wish Foundation will be brighter than ever with this new nightly showing of a magical festive world projected onto the exterior front façade in a mesmerizing and whimsical digital mapping display.

“We couldn’t be more excited about our programming this year; I particularly, cannot wait to see the joy on the faces that become enchanted by ‘A Miracle on Front Street,' said Edwin Frizzell, regional vice president and general manager, Fairmont Royal York. “This free outdoor show for the community the hotel will play backdrop to starting November 22 until early January will include projectors illuminating the season’s brightest and most joyful bursts of colour, texture and sound,” said Frizzell. “We take pride that many save a special place in their heart to celebrate the traditions of the season with us and we hope this new festive celebration in honour of our 90th year is enjoyed by many as we eagerly await a whole next era of memories at Fairmont Royal York.”

These charmed two days in support of Children’s Wish Foundation include four glowing events: the inaugural reveal of an evening exterior projection story, the showcase of the second-annual custom-designed 3D Front Street windows, a memory making visit with the man in red at his cozy Santa Chalet for media friends and partners; and to conclude, the next morning, together with Children’s Wish Foundation, Fairmont Royal York will host the Trees of Joy event to debut 24 Christmas trees sponsored by local companies/businesses, for 24 exceptional Wish Children.

“Children’s Wish is elated to partner with Fairmont Royal York to bring joy to our wish children and their families this holiday season,” said Tiffany MacDonald, regional director, Children’s Wish Foundation of Canada. “The hotel supports us in many ways throughout the year including offering accommodations for visiting families to Toronto while we grant wishes, but their festive celebrations are an iconic holiday tradition that our wish children can hardly ever wait for!”

To continue the magic throughout the season, the hotel once again hosts an official partnership with the Distillery Historic District’s Toronto Christmas Market stay package. It is also the fifth year Fairmont Hotels & Resorts offers the Trees of Hope stay package which has raised nearly, $20,000 for Children’s Wish Foundation with $10 donated from each room night booked.

With the hotel undergoing a transformation, a new vision to delight families and guests, as well as, countdown to the hotel’s 90th anniversary was needed. A dream to create a larger-than-life visual exterior display was thought of and Fairmont Royal York recruited two industry-leading companies to make this Miracle on Front Street come true. Mandell Entertainment Group, oversaw the show’s production and vision and recruited Westbury National. This will be one of the largest, if not the largest, digital mapping experiences the city has seen with 10 20K lumen projectors to blend one large canvas, and an installation team working around the clock for a week. The digital designers’ custom story is projected onto the iconic Toronto hotel using state-of-the-art media servers with powerful machines positioned at extreme and strategic angles.

The annual lobby Tree Lighting Ceremony which has been a Toronto and Fairmont Royal York festive tradition for over 20 years, is put on hold this year due to lobby renovations. This once-a-year holiday celebration is hosted in part to bring awareness to the Children’s Wish Foundation of Canada, an organization that grants wishes to children diagnosed with life threatening illnesses, and has granted nearly 25,000 wishes since 1984.

To continue to warm the hearts of guests, and the community, the hotel is thrilled to present for the second time ever, 12 festive 3D window displays. May these displays inspired by the traditions of the season and the hotel’s authentic spirit, make you feel merry and you bring viewers lots of joy. Windows designed by Frank Rea of Forget Me Not Flowers.

For the third year, Fairmont Royal York will participate in Trees of Joy, a sponsored tree-decorating event for families from the Children’s Wish Foundation. Each generous sponsor has donated $10,000 to grant a wish child’s unique and magical wish, ranging from experiences at Disney, meeting the Toronto Blue Jay players, and even trips to Japan! Each family will be gifted with a tree delivered to their home, tailored to the Wish Child’s interest, decorated by the corporate sponsors with holiday cheer. Fairmont Royal York will collect donations over the holiday season in the Children’s Wish Mailbox located beside the floral wall at the guest reception area, as well as, through the Trees of Hope stay package. Fairmont Royal York will proudly host all 24 Wish children and their families for a night to fully enjoy all the festive wonder the hotel will bring. You can also text RYHFestive to 45678 to donate $5, $10, $20.

For more than 30 years, Children’s Wish has worked tirelessly to grant heartfelt wishes to nearly 25,000 children and their families. With the help of our generous donors and volunteers, we will continue to meet the increasing need of Canadian children to realize their single-most heartfelt wish. Children’s Wish grants approximately three wishes each and every day, all year long. Currently, the Ontario Chapter is working on granting 600 wishes. For nearly 90 years, Fairmont Royal York has stood proudly as a Toronto landmark, presiding over the block opposite Union Station – a love letter in stone to the heart of the city. It began its life as The Royal York, the tallest building in the British Commonwealth, soaring nearly 400 ft. and 28 storeys above the street level. A dominant feature on the skyline, the building contained 1,048 rooms, and included a concert hall, library, extensive bakery, radio station, ballrooms, restaurants, even a hospital. Little wonder it was called a city within a city – as it still is today. Today, this essential downtown landmark is in the midst of a $500M transformation, re-imagining its lobby experience, rooms, dining venues, event spaces, and Fairmont Gold – the property’s exclusive boutique luxury experience. Another stunning chapter for Toronto’s eternal, essential landmark is about to begin.
