A family holiday. We stayed in the bungalow accommodation which suited us perfectly as there were 4 adults and 2 children in our party. The hotel team were friendly and very helpful and we had a super stay.

Basically not recommend on the basis of service

We enjoyed our stay at the Fairmont in Santa Monica after a week of work in Marina Del Rey. The staff was incredibly helpful, even checking us in at 10am, Friday morning. We dropped our bags in the room and quickly made our way to the concierge desk where they put us on bikes and we were off to explore the neighborhoods. The housekeeping staff couldn't do enough to ensure our comfort and that we had everything we needed for a comfortable stay. The wait staff and the bar staff were incredibly friendly and helpful sharing local tips for things to do and places to go. The pool situation is challenging. It's clear that many people get up early, put things on chairs to reserve and don't come back for hours on end, leaving guests to decide to enjoy with no chairs or leave entirely. With someone at the gate checking room keys I would suggest that they let guests know that if they are gone for more than 30 minutes their stuff will be moved and the chairs become available for waiting guests. This is an easy fix - please consider instituting immediately. The gratitude you'll receive will far outweigh any guest backlash; they should understand. We took advantage of the free car service the hotel provides to take us to dinner a couple miles away. The driver asked us if we'd been affected by the elevator situation but we weren't aware yet that the guest elevators were not operational. For the entire weekend the guests and staff of the hotel shared two freight elevators. Not once did I see frustration f. anyone, rather everyone seemed to take it in good stride with a sense of humor. The staff did yield to the guests which had to make their days and tasks long and drawn out. After dinner we enjoyed sitting on our balcony and were surprised at how loud the nightclub was, but it was the weekend so we understood. Then we went into our room to go to sleep. The nightclub followed us too. I called the desk to ask when the music would end and was told that unfortunately it would go until 2am. It was only 11pm. We endured the thumping and screaming for those three hours waking up multiple times. Had we known about this perhaps we would have requested a room on the opposite side of the building. Fortunately it was me and my wife but we remarked how terrible it would be for a young family with children with no recourse - just lay there and endure it. I would suggest alerting your guests to these kinds of things as it only elevates your customer service and experience. Overall we really did enjoy our stay and would come back should our plans take us back to the Santa Monica area.
We stayed with our daughter for two nights. The pool was fun and easy, very nice staff, hotel easy to navigate, great coffee shop downstairs, rooms comfortable, great location. The first night there was a market with very loud music on our side of the building...not ideal with a 5 year old and trying to sleep...wish we had been on the other side of the building. Otherwise, great stay...may want to put people with kids on the opposite side of the building on Thursday nights this summer...very very loud.
Had a meeting at 5:30 am on Friday but the hotel was hosting some sort of concert in the courtyard that was blasting music till about midnight. Mentioned it at checkout and the guy just shrugged. I've gotten better sleep at a La Quinta. I paid for a room with a view and a balcony. The pictures showed an unobstructed view but the railing on the balcony was solid concrete with foliage at the top and it was so tall, we had to stand on a chair to actually see over. I would have stayed somewhere else if I'd known I wasn't going to get three for I wanted or any sleep.
This hotel is in a great location but the elevators had issues, there were no towels at the pool, every other day the vallet spot switched & the employees who were working here were not nice. Look elsewhere.
We were please about the location very close to the ocean. However, there was parties on the hotel plaza each day of our stay that started mid-afternoon and finished very late at night (around 2AM). The level of noise was very enjoying and we didn't really enjoyed our nights and benefit from any restful sleep. Then we found that the furniture in the room and the bathroom equipment were very old and tired. The rest of the hotel amenities (pool and restaurant was enjoyable). Based on our experience and the standing level of the Fairmont Hotel brand that was overall a bit disappointing. Also, we wanted to book a massage/spa session and never got the chance to do it in advance, both emails and calls were left unanswered...

The hotel is obviously well located. However the property is outdated as you undoubtedly know. The room was clean. My experience at the sushi restaurant was horrendous. I sat at the sushi bar. After nearly 30 minutes, the sushi chef working directly in front of me did not acknowledge my presence, didn't make eye contact and didn't ask for my order. I ordered edamame from the waitress, she brought the wrong one. I told her I preferred to order my fish from the sushi chef so as to inquire about any specials, best fish options etc. Even after that I got zero attention or acknowledgment from the sushi chef. After several more minutes I got up and left. It wasn't very busy with only half of the seats at the sushi bar occupied and 1 or 2 tables. They need to do better. At checkout, I asked for hard copy and email copy of my bill. I received neither. They told me they couldn't print a copy. I gave the person my email. They wrote it down wrong and I never received. I had to call back to the hotel to get it straightened out. The only positive experience with service was the utilization of the house car which was nice as well as timely.
