The hotel is beautiful and nostalgic. The spa waters are really healing. However, what made the stay exceptional was the staff. Everyone went out of their way to make us comfortable. Even the engineers that came to our room to help us with the television were delighted to help us, and anxious to please. The sign of an exceptional hotel is service… the service at the Sonoma Mission Inn is unsurpassed. We will most definitely be back. Thank you for making our stay so special. The Martinellis

Had a big group and got compliments from other guest in our party that we picked a good hotel, usually doesnt happen.
We have stayed at 2 previous Fairmont locations within 6 months (Fairmont Banff Springs & Fairmont Miramar Santa Monica), and loved those properties. For Easter weekend, we selected the Fairmont Sonoma for the holiday, and particularly for the Easter Egg Hunt hotel activity for our 4 y/o. I had shopped all around Sonoma hotels, and Fairmont Sonoma had a very strongly advertised Easter Sunday activity day for the kids, with the Egg Hunt as the focus. We showed up exactly at 10a when the hunt began and all the eggs were long gone. Speaking to the Fairmont activity directors onsite, they said they "didn't anticipate this many kids" and therefore only had 300 eggs out. They also said in past years, they staggered the hunt for little baby/toddlers, and bigger kids at different start times (which is typical of any egg hunt). In this case during our visit, there were probably 1 egg per 20 kids. Big kids had 5-6 eggs in their basket, and younger kids had no eggs. My child found 1 broken egg, and many other kids did not have any eggs in their Easter basket (and crying). In short, it was a sad, terrible disappointment for kids (not only mine) and an egg hunt disaster. We have spent Easter at The Broadmoor in Colorado Springs last year, and they had staggered start times, and probably 20-24 eggs per kid (with a huge group of kids at the hotel). There were so many eggs at the Broadmoor, all the kids had such a blast with full Easter baskets. That's what a fine hotel Easter experience should be if you have activities for the kids. Instead, it was sad. Although the Easter Brunch at Sante was delicious and beautiful, the huge disappointment of the Easter Egg Hunt overshadowed the weekend. For this reason, we really regret our decision to stay at this Fairmont property for a special holiday, that was meant to be extra fun for our daughter.
Sonoma Mission Inn used to be our favorite getaway. Sorry to say the service is no longer gracious.
Upon check in (Sunday), I noticed a large stain in the room's carpet near the window, which was wet to the touch. I reported the issue to the bellhop but didn't hear anything further from the hotel, until I spoke with the front desk clerk the following day (Monday). At that point, I was asked if I wanted to move to a different room. I declined because the water stain had dried and there was no further indication that there was an issue with the room. The day before I departed (Wednesday), I received a notification on my phone that I had received a voicemail. I am from Canada and my roaming was not turned on until the second day of my trip. When I listened to the voicemail, I realize that I was offered a substantially upgraded room earlier in the week (either Sunday or Monday). This offer was not communicated to me by hotel staff through any other method (i.e. text message, email, phone call to room, visit to room by hotel staff, interaction with front desk clerk earlier in the week). I spoke with the front desk clerk on Wednesday morning, and expressed concern that the upgrade was not offered to me in person when I spoke to the front desk on Monday. I was assured the issue would be addressed and I received a call from the Manager later that day, offering me compensation for one night of my stay in lieu of the potential upgrade that had been offered. I was satisfied with this resolution, based on the circumstances as I understood them at the time. On Wednesday afternoon and evening, things took a turn for the worse. Steady rainfall through the day and night resulted in a constant stream through the roof of the room, which was audible and was creating a huge puddle of water on the floor. To protect the room, I took the ice bucket and put it on the floor. By the next morning the container was considerably full. On checkout (Thursday), I spoke with the front desk clerk again and expressed my concern about the leak in the roof. I stated that it was outrageous that the hotel would even let us stay in a room with a known water leak problem. The front desk clerk offered me partial compensation for the night, a resolution I was not satisfied with. Upon further reflection, I have personally categorized this experience as something that causes me apprehension about booking with the Fairmont again in the future. A room with structural damage and a known water leak issue should not be occupied by a guest in any circumstances.
