Check in wasn’t on time as our room wasn’t ready and no one even apologised for the inconvenience - unacceptable. Kids on their scooters flying through the hotel, nearly knocking into us on more than one occasion. No staff member telling them not to be on scooters in the communal indoor areas. Breakfast was chaotic. Food on the floor everywhere, fried egg just dropped and not picked up, cereal scattered everywhere, lack of options, no plates (had to go and source some ourselves) overall it felt dirty and my husband compared it to a 3* all inclusive. The main event - I got physically shoved by Andreas the “restaurant manager” at breakfast. The worst part? I had to ask him for an apology and I got a very insincere “sorry”. I am heavily pregnant and would not ever expect to be shoved by anyone, especially staff in a 5* establishment. This led me to have a mild panic attack over breakfast as I was so concerned for the welfare of my baby. Truly disgusting behaviour. Once we had served ourselves at the buffet, upon arriving back at our table someone else had been seated there. This led to a very uncomfortable exchange between us and the fellow guests as we had to ask them to move. Breakfast was truly chaotic and unacceptable. The spa felt more like a leisure centre with kids EVERYWHERE. Families were not adhering to the kids swimming times and no staff member was enforcing them, therefore a relaxing spa break felt like a day at the crèche. No robes available, no slippers, we were told to go back to our room to fetch our room robes as the spa had run out. Spa attendants very slow at tidying the spa. Floor dangerously wet and slippery, towels strewn everywhere. It feels the hotel is confused about who their target audience is. It also seems staff are too scared to say “no” to children or ask families to adhere to the rules. It felt like the kids and families were having a great time at the detriment to guests who did not have children with them. Afternoon tea interrupted by children coming in and playing the piano. Again - unacceptable. Luckily a staff member this time told them to stop playing after about 10 minutes. Their parents weren’t even dining in the afternoon tea room. This felt like a Butlins holiday camp with kids doing what they wanted and when they wanted. We reported all of this to Patricia who advised us to complain to Secret Escapes who we booked through. The shock we received was The email response from the complaint, via Secret Escapes came from Andreas himself. I emailed secret escapes back stating I did not want Andreas - the man who near enough assaulted me - to deal with my complaint. We also spoke to Pepe about our ordeal at the time, who was very awkward and didn’t have much to say at all. We would like to take this further, above Pepe as we felt he didn’t have much to say and made us feel even more uncomfortable. Thank you Fairmont Hotel, for ruining our 1 year wedding anniversary, leaving me a shaken wreck and for physically shoving me. All in all, a memorable stay.

To give this review some context this was my 10th visit to the Fairmont Windsor since June 2022. On this occasion it was just me and my wife celebrating our ten-year anniversary. Prior to arrival the reservations team arranged everything for us with great professionalism and care, thank you Leanne and Dina. On arrival we requested early check-in, which was granted, and the check-in process was done with excellent efficiency, and we were in our room in less than 10 minutes. We had requested a one-bedroom suite and stayed in room 1072 which had a lovely view over the main terrace and lawn. A welcome box of Macarons, chocolates awaited us and a lovely card from Ryan the general manager. Our stay was meant to be relaxing so we spent most of our time in the bar, restaurants, and spa. The spa is excellent and very quiet in the early morning and mid-afternoon. The Tropical shower is a lovely experience and there is something soothing with the Japanese footbath. Outdoor pool is nice and warm, however personally would not mind it 2-3 degrees warmer. I would recommend to any guest the in-room dining services, the menu is probably the best I have seen in any 5* star hotel with an excellent offering. The Chicken Breast with Mash I think I could eat every day. On our anniversary night we ate in the 1215 restaurant with the 5-course taster which was excellent. However, as I visited before I mentioned it was a shame the Duck Liver Parfait was not on the tasting menu, to my surprise they made me one which made my day. When deserts arrived the Head Chef Tim personally delivered them and wished us well on our anniversary. Very nice chap. Most of the rest of our time we spent on the terrace and 1215 bar where the staff were professional but very friendly. We had a good laugh and there is good banter between them which you can’t help but laugh at. The cocktails and wine are amazing, but I recommend if having wine, try the Chorizo. It is hard for me to look at this as a hotel anymore given the number of visits we have had. My wife points out that on this occasion when we arrived I actual commented it felt like we were coming ‘home’. It does now feel more like a home as I’m very familiar with it, however each time we come back there is something new. I believe on our next visit there will be an outdoor kitchen and bar hut. There is no criticisms or complaints about this hotel/home, however it would be nice if they could finish the tree houses. I would like to try them one day, but understand it more complicated getting them done. If you are staying as a couple, I can recommend any of the rooms, however the one-bedroom suites are excellent. If staying as a family a one-bedroom with a camper bed can be provided or just take a double double or 2-bedroom suite. Eating I would always say you should eat once in 1215 restaurant, it worth it. Moreish don’t miss the breakfast as it has a very good selection. Room service it very good so try that as well.
Overall we thought the hotel was beautiful, we enjoyed waking the grounds in the morning after breakfast and thought the spa was really beautiful and we loved having the outdoor pool whist the weather was so lovely. Our overall experience however was dampened but the dinner we had at Morish. For the money we have paid for our break and his nice the rest of the hotel was we thought the food was very mediocre and we thought it did nit reflect the price at all. On top of that the one dish I did highlight to the waitress from our starters that was unsatisfactory she offered to make again but I declined as we did not want to wait for 1 separate starter before our dinner and I as surprised at the end when she refused to remove this from our bill as she had already offered to remake it. This I found shocking as service level for the hotel class, she made us feel quite uncomfortable…particularly as it was the cheapest thing on the menu so we would have no benefit from choosing that to complain about! I’ve personally worked in luxury service so I was very disappointed to see this and how poorly it was managed. A real shame to have this experience when we chose to spend our special milestone with you.
Generally overall was a nice stay only issue was there wasn’t any recognition of the grand romance package on the hotels side so the extras such as the champagne and chocolates had to be requested and I was charged for the bed and breakfast which was meant to be included in the package.
Nothing short of outstanding
We booked the "Grand Romance Experience' because of the 4pm check-out. Those extra 5 hours made so much difference. We had a relaxing 24 hours at the hotel and enjoyed using the hotel's facilities - the sunshine was the icing on the cake.
My family and I loved our stay at the Fairmont, it was one of the best experiences we’ve had at a hotel. The key to our stay was the staff, every single staff member of staff we spoke too was so friendly and was really engaging. We can’t wait to return
