Local Shopping
Downtown Seattle has a wide selection of shops, ranging from tiny local gems to international designers. The downtown district is sectioned into smaller areas, each with its own personality. In addition to these areas, Seattle has two shopping centers, and several retail centers and department stores. All shops listed below are a reasonable walk from The Fairmont Olympic Hotel.
The Districts
The Pike Place Market, established in 1907, boasts nine acres of specialty shops and restaurants. To this day it is the heart and soul of downtown Seattle, frequented by locals, chefs, and visitors. This is a perfect place to select fresh salmon to bring home, choose a hand-made child's toy, glass ornament, local honey or lavender-scented product from lavender grown on the Olympic Peninsula. It is also a wonderful place to enjoy a leisurely lunch or a cup of coffee in the original Starbucks store.
Pioneer Square is Seattle's 'old town.' The district encompasses a bevy of local galleries and artsy shops. The Northwest Fine Woodworking studio has exquisitely wrought pieces ranging in size from tiny vases and boxes to furniture, all lovingly hand-made. The Foster White Gallery has Dale Chihully glass pieces available for sale or viewing, while Elliot Bay Bookstore and Ragazzi's Flying Shuttle are also 'must stop' shops in Pioneer Square. Between shopping and lunch, you may want to take 90 minutes for the Underground Tour - a walking history of Seattle punctuated with plenty of humor. At night Pioneer Square hums with small, funky bars and large dance clubs.
Belltown is a hip, urban neighborhood. Enjoy the AT.31 Gallery showing contemporary and avant-garde artists, browse Riflessi Italian ceramics, tableware and fine art and tempt yourself with Darbury Stenderu's brilliant bias-cut dresses and accessories. Weekend nights Belltown floods with locals dining and clubbing until the early hours of the morning.
The Financial District stretches between The Fairmont Olympic Hotel and Nordstrom. Fifth and Sixth avenues offer upscale Seattle shopping including Escada, St. John, Nancy Meyer Fine Lingerie, Betsy Johnson, Urban Outfitters, Anthropologie, Turgeon Raine Jewelers, Brooks Brothers Flagship store (opening Fall 2004), Best of All Worlds gifts and home décor, Coldwater Creek, Niketown, Addidas, Kenneth Cole and Banana Republic.
The International District is anchored by the Uwajimaya flagship store, an enormous Japanese department store containing Asian groceries, gifts and goods, as well as the Kinokuniya Bookstore specializing in Asian language books and periodicals. Seattle's International District consists of a wide variety of cultures, including Chinese, Filipino, Japanese, and Southeast Asian. The district is saturated with small shops, cafes, and bakeries reflecting these different influences.
Department Stores
The Nordstrom flagship store is located just three blocks from The Fairmont Olympic and is happy to deliver your purchases to the hotel. Bargain hunters will enjoy perusing the deals at Nordstrom Rack. Also just blocks from the hotel, Macy's has seven floors of shopping.

Stores include Tiffany, Cartier, Aveda, Coach, Bebe, Bose, Benetton, Ann Taylor, Williams-Sonoma Grande Cuisine, St. Croix, Restoration Hardware and Pottery Barn.
