A Tale of “To Do” Cities
With warmer weather quickly approaching, The Fairmont Washington, D.C. is ushering in spring with its signature Cherry Blossom Package. Available from March 20 - April 27, the package offers overnight accommodation for two, complimentary valet parking and a box of assorted note cards featuring scenes of the capital’s monuments and famous cherry blossoms by celebrated Washington, D.C. photographer Jake McGuire. The National Cherry Blossom Festival includes 5 weeks of events and commemorates the 100th anniversary of the presentation of 3,000 Yoshino cherry trees by the Mayor of Tokyo to the City of Washington as a “memorial of national friendship between the United States and Japan.” Rates start at $249 USD.
For Spring Break, why not embrace the pleasures of winter in a real Snow Village? Guests can get a well-deserved vacation and delight kids with Montreal’s unique winter attractions such as Parc Jean-Drapeau in the middle of the St. Lawrence River, where families can explore a village entirely made of snow and ice, then head to the nearby Biosphere to take part in their indoor activities or their outdoor rally. OMG March break is almost here! Fairmont Château Laurier is helping mom and dad be “totally cool” by rocking a stay in Ottawa’s castle - which is celebrating its 100th anniversary in 2012. From March 2 - March 18, the hotel is featuring the OMG-Ottawa March Getaway Package, which includes an overnight stay, complimentary self-parking and a family pass to the Canadian Museum of Aviation. Located in the heart of downtown Ottawa, walking distance to museums, the Parliament Building, shopping and restaurants, the entire family will find something new to explore around each corner. Rates start at $159 CAD per night, based on a family of four.
This March break kids are kings (or queens) of the castle at The Fairmont Royal York in Toronto. The Fairmont Family Escape offers kids and their families a big city overnight stay for four (double or quad occupancy) plus a $30 CAD food and beverage credit and valet parking. Take a Snowy Siesta
With the best snow conditions anywhere in North America, there’s never been a better time to book a Whistler ski vacation. Boasting more powder this season than the rest of North America – due to La Niña’s generous snow fall – The Fairmont Chateau Whistler is offering the Whistler Powder Ski Package. Bookable for travel from February 26 - April 25, the ‘Powder Package’ includes accommodation for two, two adult lift tickets per day, and a hearty buffet breakfast for two daily in the Wildflower restaurant, perfect for filling up before a long day on the slopes. This winter, the castle-like Fairmont Le Château Frontenac in Quebec City gives families the royal treatment with its new Winter Family Fun Package. At The Fairmont Empress in Victoria, kids rule the Castle. Walking distance from attractions such as Miniature World, the Beacon Hill Park Petting Zoo, the Undersea Gardens, Bug Zoo and Royal BC Museum – the hotel is the perfect place for the young and young-at-heart. The Kids Rule Family Stay Package includes overnight accommodation, overnight valet parking, a children's welcome toy, a Scavenger Hunt in the hotel, a choice of one in-room pay per view movie and a Movie Night amenity of popcorn and non-alcoholic beverages for four. Many people around the world have roots in Scotland, making it a great place to explore history and walk in the footsteps of ancestors. The Scottish Genealogy Package at Fairmont St Andrews offers overnight accommodation, a full Scottish breakfast, a Welcome Scroll on the history of the guest’s surname with a family coat of arms, and two hours of genealogy advice and online help from Scots family genealogy expert Dr Brian Thomson, who is a researcher for BBC's "Who Do You Think You Are?". Rates start from £199 GBP.
At all Fairmont hotels, kids 5 and under eat free off the children’s menu while kids 6-11 eat for half price off the regular menu. New this year is the expansion of the brand’s Lifestyle Cuisine program to children’s menus - offering a healthy twist on the usual kid-friendly favorites such as chicken strips, pizza, spaghetti with meatballs and even chocolate mousse. Chefs are in the process of swapping out refined flour for whole wheat, incorporating fruits and vegetables into recipes to help meet the recommended daily fiber allowance, and employing alternative cooking methods to help ensure healthier choices are made available to young diners. The menus will be available in all hotels by March of this year.
Also new in 2012, the Fairmont Fit for Kids program is being rolled out for children of all ages at the brand’s resort properties. Organized sports are a major part of many families’ active lifestyles and by offering comprehensive athletic experiences through skill challenges and activities, this program is the newest way the brand is supporting healthy lifestyles for guests of all ages.
