Whistler Brewing Company
Fairmont 'Stinger' Honey Lager - light, refreshing, with some earth tones, silky smooth honey on the finish
First established in 1989, the Whistler Brewing Company is an originator in the BC craft brewing movement. And today, while many craft breweries have come and gone, we are still proudly 100% BC owned and 100% BC brewed.
Parallel 49 Brewing Co
Gypsy Tears Ruby Ale - deep ruby in colour, rich caramel malt flavour and a burst of West Coast hops
Three of Parallel 49’s founders grew up together in East Vancouver less than ten minutes from the spot where the brewery now stands. Mike, Nick, and Anthony had been avid home brewers and craft beer enthusiasts for years before they finally decided to turn their shared passion into a full time gig. In 2008, the three friends quit their day jobs and opened a restaurant that quickly became known as a mecca for craft beer enthusiasts in Vancouver. As the restaurant business thrived the guys turned their attentions back to the enduring dream of opening their own brewery. The guys decided that it was time to stop talking and start brewing. They teamed up with Graham With, a respected home brewer; and Michael Tod, a friend with a wealth of sales experience in the BC craft beer industry. The newly assembled Parallel 49 team set out to create the unique brand of Vancouver craft beer that they had been thirsting after for years.
R&B Brewing Co
Hoppleganger India Pale Ale - clear and light copper hue, fresh floral aroma, citrus zest, pine with hint of earthy spice and long lasting hop finish
What do we mean when we call ourselves “Vancouver’s Local Microbrewery”? I guess what we mean is that we’ve been brewing finely made, hand crafted ales and lagers in the heart of East Vancouver’s historic Brewery Creek district since 1997, with a commitment to keeping things modest, independent, and unique – some of the qualities we value and admire the most in our beautiful city. Located just off of Main street, one of Vancouver’s more recognizable cultural hubs, you’ll routinely hear punk rock, ska, and folk music blasting out of our doors as you take in the sweet smell of boiling wort and the grinding roar of our mill. Emblematic of both the area we live in, and the hearts and minds brewing your beer.
Dark Matter - deep chestnut in colour and fuller bodied, slightly toasted, nutty, coffee and molasses aromas followed with similar palate notes of toasted, dark chocolate, slight bitterness
Very few people get to study craft beer under one of the pioneers of the North American micro-brewery movement. Frank Appleton taught me what it means to make great beer, and I am truly grateful for that. Frank and I set up the brewery in Victoria’s historic Swans Hotel in 1989. When he moved on to build other breweries, I took on the role of Brewmaster and began honing my craft. In 1998, I founded the brewery at Canoe Brewpub. I brewed there for 13 years, focusing on developing award-winning beers and fostering a sense of community between brewers and beer enthusiasts. For me, it is community that really counts: getting together with fellow beer lovers, talking shop, sharing a few pints, and having some laughs. I bring this fundamental passion to every batch I brew.
“Make great beer,” Frank told me. “The rest will follow.” While my understanding of the craft has matured over the years, Frank gave me the foundation I needed. I strive to create interesting and thoroughly enjoyable beer. Beer that looks good in the glass, feels good in the mouth, and lifts the spirit—and for that, I am proud.
Pilsner - bright light golden hue, fresh, crisp, faint lemon, grassy aromas and spicy hops
In 1995, when we first took hold of our historic Gastown brewpub location, we discovered that the building had a rare steam heat system. A remnant from forward thinkers of a century past. Our brewmaster had only read of steam powered brewing, but had never seen a functional steam brewery. These are very rare indeed. We ventured forth, experimented, and created a one-of-a-kind steam generated brewery. The only one in Canada. To our pleasure, we found our test brews to be distinctively fresh and flavourful. For nearly 20 years, beer aficionados have been migrating to our Steamworks Brewpub for a taste of these unconventional beers. Since 2013, with the advent of our Production Brewery in Burnaby Heights, you can now take the brewpub experience home with you. Bottling, Kegging and Canning Tallboys, we're still brewing with the Power of Steam.
Pale Ale - mellow honey amber colour, citrus hops and coriander aroma notes with mixed citrus predominantly grapefruit and lemon and touches of pine rounding it out
In 2003, we started as Central City Craft Brewpub in Surrey, BC. Our craft beer grew so popular that in 2005, we launched a canning line, enabling us to sell our beers at our own Liquor Store, and beyond. Brewery sales quickly grew as our craft beers continued to win awards, and we achieved great success with the Red Racer beer brand. By 2009 we had reached full capacity at our current BC brewery – a 3,500 sq. ft. space. Our Red Racer brand has become a cult icon among craft beer enthusiasts. Our flagship Red Racer IPA is available at 156 BC Government Liquor stores, and all the finest private Liquor Stores in the Province. It’s also available at 230 LCBO outlets in Ontario, and we have just agents in Alberta, Manitoba and Saskatchewan. Our craft beers are rated some of the highest in British Columbia, and Canada from experts on sites like BeerAdvocate and RateBeer.
Granville Island Brewing
Lager - clear golden yellow hue, slight sweetness and bread brushed with grassy aromas, with a light flavor of honey
In 1984 something happened that forever changed the local beer industry: Granville Island Brewing opened the doors to Canada’s first microbrewery. And in doing so, we opened hearts and minds to a whole new beer drinking experience. Driven by a firm belief that the West was ready for a premium, natural, unpasteurized beer Granville Island Brewing introduced locals to our now famous Island Lager. And it wasn’t long before we were adding more new and unique, West Coast inspired craft beers to our lineup. In celebration of our heritage, we name each new GIB beer after iconic Vancouver locations that embody the West Coast lifestyle. Over the years, we’ve become more than just the local brewery. We focus much of our sustainability efforts towards ongoing community investment, including sponsorship and charitable support, involvement with local sports teams, community organizations and more. We’re just as proud of that as we are about what we put in our bottles.
Watermelon Wit - a Belgian style Witbier made with a watermelon twist, this unfiltered beer boasts an effervescent watermelon aroma and crisp dry finish
